    disc brake conversion....stock or aftermarket?

Ross is absolutely correct that a disc booster is the better choice! Try Murray Park.

    disc brake conversion....stock or aftermarket?

The disc booster is not the same- it is dual-diaphragm, as compared to single-diaphragm for drums, so the disc booster is stronger. However, you can use the drum booster and it works fine but with a bit less assist. I converted my ‘66 300 to front discs from a ‘72 New Yorker, 35 years ago and it...

Thinking of Going BACK to Front Drums

I read the thread about Tux’s problem and it sure sounds like a booster problem, as does this ‘69 Fury. I’d try another booster (I know that sounds easier than it is) Also, are you sure that the primary and secondary shoes aren’t swapped, in the rear? I love the color combo on Tux! One last...

    Brake experiment

My two cents: my primary suspect is the booster. When I got my ‘72 Imp, it had super-touchy brakes. I put new cylinders and shoes in the rear, with no change. I drove it for a few years and got used to the touchy brakes and basically forgot about it. One day, my booster outright failed to boost...

    1966 300 convertible help!!

I have put disc booster on drum system and what happens is that it works great, with further-reduced pedal effort.

    1966 300 convertible help!!

No. That is not a disc brake booster. It looks just like the original on my ‘66 300, which was originally drum/drum and has been in the family since 1978.

    Need a Drum Brake Expert

Sounds more mechanical than hydraulic to me. My bet’s on the backing plate. Time for a little weld and grind session.

Fuselage - Drums to Disc Brake Conversion

I put ‘72 NY Disc brakes on my bro’s ‘66 300 and kept the original drum booster. It has always worked very well, although I know that a disc booster would be even better. But you can definitely use a good drum booster.

    Ball joint dust boot..

This is what most people do. The last time I checked, new boots were still available from the dealer but there was a minimum quantity purchase.

    Unfreakin' believable wheel cylinder!

I’m guessing that the new cylinders you bought were Chinese. It shows how far they’ve come since ‘90-‘91, if those were indeed Chinese.

That’s a good booster to use. I believe you are correct on the parts.

    Brakes

Are you using the ‘71 booster and combo valve?

Cool. Rock has rotors that will work. As I said, the hub OD is bigger than the OEM but shouldn’t be a problem with aftermarket 15” wheels.

I got the Rock rotors and they will fit ‘72. The hub OD is the same size as a ‘73 and up rotor.

    Brakes

In general I agree. I’ll be keeping the drums on my GTX. However, after a couple hard stops, you better not need to do it again for awhile. This is not the case with discs.
