1966 Imperial Crown convertible Ignition power issue

Congratulations on an exceptional and rare find. Your can find better wiring diagrams at www.mymopar.com, these are free downloads. www.imperialclub.com is also a good resource. I would start by checking the bulkhead connector, these will sometimes corrode up and cause an intermittent power...

    Imperial U-joints

TRW, Borg-Warner, Spicer and Dana all made good ones. Whether you install greasable units is a matter of personal choice. The non-greasable units are usually good for 100k, so that is what I would use. Avoid anything made in China like the plague. Dave

Looking at a '64 Crown Coupe. Help?

There is a lot of surface evener showing on the driver's door where the paint is peeling. Prep work on the door frames is very poor and the paint is peeling off in big chunks. Points to a quick and lazy job of painting, Earl Scheib or Miracle quality. There looks to be rust out on the...

1962 Imperial - Trunk locked, no keys

The doors and ignition have the same key. Pull one of the inner door panels and remove the key lock from the door.. Take the lock to a locksmith and he can disassemble the unit and make you a key. If you remove the upper and lower seat cushions from the back seat, this will expose the...

    A518 conversion on a pushbutton 727

The adapter uses a spacer between the back of the crank and the flex plate so the proper distance is kept. Dave

    A518 conversion on a pushbutton 727

I would normally suggest going to a gear vendors overdrive unit that was attached to a 727 transmission. This avoids the problem of the 518 locking convertor going south at some future date and trashing the transmission. However your '64 still has a rear pump and gear vendors does not make a...

Is it possible to add abs to an Imperial?

Sounds like the proportioning valve is not adjusted properly. Dave

Is it possible to add abs to an Imperial?

The vintage mopar ABS system was a POS and parts are non-existant. The problem that you are going to run into is that modern ABS brakes are computer operated. They use a series of wheel sensors that measure rotation to adjust braking power if a wheel starts to slide. Some also need a link to...

Where to find bushings for a 1964 Imperial

Try craig@mobileparts, a vendor on this site, he has a lot of obsolete mopar parts. Dave

Bottom Line… Just wanna know if this comment is legit?

'65 can also use the '69-73 single piston calipers for a conversion. Dave

Bottom Line… Just wanna know if this comment is legit?

Both the Budd dual piston discs and The '70-'73 (also some '69's) single piston disc parts can be used to convert from drum brakes on a C-Body. The Budd brake system uses a different caliper mount and spindle so the parts do not interchange between the two systems. The lower ball joint is also...

    Firecore Mechanical Advance Distributor Setup

If you are going to run the MSD distributor, you are stuck with using their control box. All of the MSD ignition stuff is expensive, the control unit with the harness will set you back somewhere around $250. The make the billet distributor in both mechanical and vacuum advance but I don't know...

    R134a conversation/ ac condenser size?

Condenser efficiency is a function of the cooling surface area. As a rule of thumb, you need about 30% more area with R-134a as opposed to R-12 to get the same performance. If the proposed replacement condenser has the same density of cooling fins, then it will need to be about 30% bigger. If...

Does a 1964 Imperial need upgrades for 70mph?

The Imperial loved the open road, you can drive it all day at 70mph. As others have noted, be sure that the tires are in good shape and the car is in a good state of repair. In the open country of the southwest, back when these cars were new, folks drove them a lot faster than that without any...

1967 Imperial front calipers and pads

The two piston calipers usually need to have stainless steel sleeves installed as part of the repair process. A good automotive machine shop can do this. I would not trust and Cardon't rebuilds any farther than I could throw them. A conversion is possible, but it is a lot of work. The web...

    1964 Crown Coupe on BringATrailer.....

I agree that this is a nicely preserved '64 Imperial and I like it in the $5k-$6k price range. The '64 is one of my favorite Imperials. There are some obvious things that hold down the value of this particular car. The seats being redone in vinyl is a real turn off to any Imperial purist...

    1973 Imperial brake booster finish

That is a Midland-Ross tandem booster. (First photos by big mopar Jeff) Used in Imperials and some Chryslers in '73. If I remember correctly all of the tandem boosters of this type were plated. Dave

    1974 Imperial Emissions Systems

Most of the time, getting rid of an EGR will not cause carb issues such as re-jetting. Quick test would be to plug the EGR vacuum line and take the car for a drive. If it still runs ok, you should be good to go the way it is. Dave
