    Question on Ballast Resistors

This is an older thread now, but I have some interesting info on the new ECUs that have 5 pins... The 5th pin does nothing, it's a 4-pin box with a dummy 5th pin. A friend and I were driving to a car show this summer when his ECU died. He grabbed his spare ECU, which someone had given him for...

My New Preferred Whitewalls for C Bodies

Just a minor nit, but that is an Oldsmobile wheel cover, not Lincoln. Our 1978 Olds Delta 88 has those exact wheel covers. :)

    Look at my plate!

My first thought on seeing that plate was it's owned by someone who either 1) looks like Dwight Eisenhower, or 2) didn't like Dwight Eisenhower.

My New Preferred Whitewalls for C Bodies

The following site shows 215/70/14 and 205/75/14 which are pretty small. They also show 225/75/15 but that size doesn't have the higher 109XL rating that the 235/75/15 does. Discount Tire | Tires and Wheels for Sale | Online & In-Person

My New Preferred Whitewalls for C Bodies

In some of the pictures it looks like the tires have a double whitewall because of the wheelcovers, which is a neat effect. Real double-stripe whitewalls were an actual thing on Cadillacs around 1970, so possibly this effect was intentional, to imitate the Caddy double-stripe look without using...

    Syd Mead and Fabulon

Ah, that would make sense. I didn't realize he only purchased the Imperial in 2011. I'm sure you are right. I figured he owned the Imperial for a long time, but that the picture was done before that. I searched online to see when Syd made the picture but couldn't find that info. My guess is it...

He should have used his Imperial in this picture instead of a Lincoln. :)

    Making this Polara mine....

As I mentioned before, you should fill it with coolant up to the bottom of the tube. Otherwise it will do that itself, with coolant from the rad which will then not get sucked back into the rad as it cools.

    Making this Polara mine....

It may be ok. It wouldn't be a "burst" of coolant but a stream as the coolant expands in the rad. The hose should go almost all the way to the bottom of the bottle and coolant filled up above the bottom of the hose, which would help to reduce the temperature change. Besides, I presume the car...

    Custom gauges dashboard

My guess is a bit over $1000. If they used Speed Hut gauges for tach, temp, oil and voltmeter, that's over $500 just in gauges. Then the labour to modify the cluster to fit them, and design a new faceplate sticker. I presume they would have overhauled the speedometer and odometer mechanisms to...

    What exactly is a "lurker"?

Those people are called "flippers". They buy something cheap and then flip it for profit.

    Proper jacking of a convertible

Those plastic wedges may reduce squeaking and rattling while driving, but I wouldn't call them "structural". They're just small pieces of plastic and would surely get crushed if they were intended to stop body flex while jacking. When working on the front, I drive onto ramps instead of jacking...

RIMS! What fits What?!! -Wish the hell I knew what I was doing...

Me too, which is why I bought myself a set. :) Eventually they'll wind-up on my Windsor.... If they still make 16" tires in an appropriate size by the time I get around to it. I recall Leaburn recommended 235/65R16. I'm pretty sure the guy who put those LSC wheels on his car said he used a die...

RIMS! What fits What?!! -Wish the hell I knew what I was doing...

I concur, Fords have the smaller center register. I have a set of turbine-style wheels from a 1988-89 Lincoln LSC and they won't fit over the Mopar hubs either.

Vintage Review: 1969 Chrysler Newport (Curbside Classic)

I also used to be a regular on CC. I came to the realization that CC is a site for old car spotters, not old car OWNERS. Most of the commentators are of the strictly "armchair quarterback" variety. I went into self-imposed exile because the guy who owns the site had a chip on his shoulder...
