IF you are looking for a big project and the floors aren't too bad, around $2k. They are pretty nice cars fixed up, and it was the Indy Pace Car for '65.

Easy things to make it peppier? 68 Newport

You people saying 3.23 gear max, ever have a car with more gear? I've driven thousands of miles over the years with 3.5-3.9 gears, and a fare amount on the FW going to shows and tracks. If your cooling system is right, 383/400 motors don't mind it a bit, only down side is the worse gas...

Easy things to make it peppier? 68 Newport

Ya, you'll feel the gears in the seat of your pants, and if you have a set ready to go, just an afternoon to change out. I drove a fare amount last year on a 3.9 set up, about 3k rpm on some FW driving at 60mph and my 400 BB did fine, of course it will depend on your tire size for your rpms.

Besides insuring the timing and carb are tuned, change to 3.9 gears if you don't need to commute frequently on the FW. The 383 will like and handle the rpms just fine, only down side is gas mileage will suffer.

    Replacing timing chain question. RB

Pull it back off. Get or make a center crank bolt nut drive installer. Make sure bore and shaft are smooth, place damper in front of a space heater for about 20 mins, wear gloves and put it on using the center bolt installer.

    Replacing timing chain question. RB

A little confusing, but maybe I get what you are saying. You must take off the old gear to judge how the new one fits. I like to partially trial fit them also before final assembly without the chain, but the old gear is gone. New one should fit tight and if doesn't, then I would use green...

Putting your car on a diet -- ideas on where to shave weight

Pull the radio, heater and wiper drive assembly if fairweather driving, cut out the rear window mechs and pin the windows, remove the rear seat and put carpet in place. Relocate the battery to the trunk (better wt distribution).
