The column piece simply slips further forward than what is showing now so that the cotter pin that goes in the hole you see there lines up with that groove you see above the exposed spine. Thus once that universal is fully slipped into position there should be no spine showing.

Please note Elizabeth, the fender tag on your car is found on the radiator support near the battery, it will have a bunch of three digit numbers and letters on it. If you take a pic of that, then we can work out what you car originally was built with. Cheers.
