The "glaze and putty from AutoZone " is basically lacquer putty... NOT good for oil or gas... Especially with todays gasoline with heavy alcoholic content.. The best thing is do the radiator shop thing... You can save some money now and spend more later or spend more now and not spend later...

Before pulling windshield you might want to look at the wiper arm gaskets(where arm come thru body) and also check if the air intake box drains are plugged which can cause water to come in thru under dash vents..
