    Rookie Brake Question

I totally forgot about checking into the brake valve on the weekend. Will try to do it tonight when I get back home. Jeff

    Rookie Brake Question

I could be wrong, but something looks incorrect with the labeling on that proportioning valve. Usually, everything for the font brakes is on one side of the switch, and the rear on the other side of the switch. I'll see if I can find any additional info on Saturday. Jeff

How necessary is brake swedging for these hubs+drums?

Most or all Chevrolet front drums weren't swaged from the factory throughout the 60's and 70's. They did have a tab on the drum that indexed to the hub so that the drum would go back on in the same position each time. I think the main reason many manufactures swaged the drums on was to keep...

    Imperial-69 brake component's Budd vs. Kelsey-Hayes

I first discovered that there was a problem after reading a bunch of bad reviews for the reproduction brake valves made by Inline Tube for a Challenger that I was ordering parts for. I was able to find a nice used valve from California on ebay to use instead. I've been working on a collection...

    Imperial-69 brake component's Budd vs. Kelsey-Hayes

I've never had any problems with older parts and silicone fluid. The issue seems to be only with newer rubber parts that are made in China. I read somewhere that Raybestos claims that all their brake parts are compatible with silicone fluid regardless of where they are made. The biggest...

    Imperial-69 brake component's Budd vs. Kelsey-Hayes

I finally found my 1969 service manual. After looking at it, I'm pretty sure there was no difference in the hydraulic system between the Budd and K-H calipers. What they call a metering valve is really a hold-off valve. All it does is keep the rear brakes from engaging before the fronts...

    Imperial-69 brake component's Budd vs. Kelsey-Hayes

Still investigating. 1969 parts catalog, printed in April, 1970 doesn't show a change over to single piston calipers part way through the year, so it's going to be tough to find an answer to your question. Looks like the cast iron "all-in-one" valve may have appeared as early as 1971 on...

    Imperial-69 brake component's Budd vs. Kelsey-Hayes

My memory says that Chrysler didn't do much to balance the brakes front to rear on C bodies until maybe part way through 1972. The smaller cars with disc brakes all had proportioning valves. I think most C's only had the warning light switch, which is your top photo, and possibly a "hold off...

Body to frame bushings for front frame

There shouldn't be any bushings between the frame and body on a '66. It's a solid mount with a few metal shims in certain spots for alignment. Rubber mounts didn't show up until 1970 on certain cars and 1971 on the rest of them. Jeff

70 NYer OEM disc brake setup value these days

'69 to mid '72 spindles seem to be worth around $200 these days. Add another $50 if the splash shields are in really nice shape. '70 should have the Bendix dual diaphragm booster. That's worth $100-$150 based on condition. Jeff

    16" steel wheels for '67 Fury 3

There is a Ford wheel that you can probably use. CBODY67 is a little rusty on his Panther chassis history. Ford made multiple changes to the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car during the 1990's and 2000's. The unitized front hubs showed up around 1991, a redesigned upper control arm...

    70 fury wheel lip moldings?

I should add that the '70-'71 are tough to find. Every so often a used set will come up for sale, though they tend to be on the rough side. They are aluminum, and the salt will eat away at the mounting flange. Jeff

    70 fury wheel lip moldings?

1970-'71 Fury only. Coupes and sedans use the same parts. I'm pretty sure you could use mouldings off of a '69, but they are a bit wider. Jeff

    69 Chrysler Steering Wheel Play

It looks like it's a fairly new reman steering box, which means it's unlikely to have many miles on it, which means it was probably already bad on the day it was installed. There's an 80% chance that it's a Cardone. They are usually no good right out of the box. Buy another from one of the...

    69 Chrysler 300 wheel update

I'm sure that they aren't very common. I doubt that more than 1% of Chryslers left the factory with dog dish caps. I know that they will fit the '66 to '68 14" wheels, but don't know if they fit the common "modern" style 15 inch wheels. Jeff

    69 Chrysler 300 wheel update

Yes they did. These would be base equipment on Newports. I know they were used in 1966, probably 1965, and possibly '63-'64. Full wheelcovers became standard in '67. Jeff

Where is the wheel cylinder wrench?

I just did wheel cylinders on a 1965 Chevy Impala. The front brake shoe anchor is threaded and holds the wheel cylinder to the backing plate. Absolute piece of cake to change them compared to the Chryslers. You bend back a lock tab and zip out the anchor with an impact gun. Off comes the...

Where is the wheel cylinder wrench?

Support the lower control arm with a floor jack before loosening the bolts. Jeff
