Cat’s Out Of The Bag, ‘65 300L Manual Trans, A/C and More

The maybe original Factory Starter was mentioned earlier in this article. It had a 1965 date code stamped on it. Well I took it to a local Auto Parts Store. The parts slinger was actually someone who used to use the huge old parts books and he would humor his younger work mates with lore of...

The dual point distributor was rebuilt by @halifaxhops a while ago. Here are the before pictures. It was determined that the 2 point sets had a very weak spring pressure. Halifaxhops also found that the vacuum advance diaphragm had a slow leak and replaced it with a new better rebuilt. I...

Cat’s Out Of The Bag, ‘65 300L Manual Trans, A/C and More

Over the last few days the rear axle and leaf springs with mounting brackets were removed. The complete “742” housing will be cleaned up and sand blasted, then taken apart to change the seals. The internal 3:23 gears and sure grip will be inspected. There were no tags, 3:23 or sure grip...

I had to put my thinking cap on and dialed it up to 11. That hurt but so what if I crippled a few more brain cells, it’s for a good cause this time. This jerry rigged storm door bracket doesn’t belong on the motor and the bracket attached to it goes on the first exhaust stud on the driver’s side...

@300rag that’s a nice clean motor. I see two factory wire separators, one on each side of your engine. I wonder if my were switched around at some point. Your bracket placement seems logical and maybe mine need to be shifted around. My motor will have the A/C unit reattached. Thanks!

Cat’s Out Of The Bag, ‘65 300L Manual Trans, A/C and More

March 12th 2024 Continuation on the “Cat”. The 413 is coming together nicely and it’s been a puzzle as parts, bags and labels were added. Of course there was a bag with “?” labeling it. 6 bolts and washers were in it along with a few nuts. As I went to mount the vibration dampener four...

    Potential Project

The price would be really fantastic if you could hear it run and see it move under its own power. That would be the best case scenario. The vehicle needs to be moved out of that shed to get eyes on the engine and, as others have stated, make sure the engine does spin, also to check the...

    Potential Project

Make sure the taillights chrome bezels are as perfect as possible and the lenses because those are basically unattainable. That’s a huge concern. Good luck, hopefully the seller can power wash it before you get there.

Slowly getting items in line to proceed getting the drivetrain back together. Lots of parts are painted and today some replacement pieces arrived from RockAuto. One item is a new Idler Pulley that doesn’t have the mounting bolt attached to it like the old one. Here are a couple pictures. My...

    Factory 4-Speed-C-Body-Photo-Thread

You left me/us with a mystery, what is not factory? If you can enlighten me please. I found this picture that maybe shows it does spell Dodge in the middle but it’s a little blurry. I wonder how a white convertible top would look. The red is too striking for my taste. It is a superb looking...

I was told that a minimum was removed from the block deck and the heads, only enough to make them straight. The head gasket that came with the rebuild kit has a .040 head gasket, I did measure it. The Summit .030 thick head gaskets that are $37 each, so $74 a set. At this point I was thinking a...

Cat’s Out Of The Bag, ‘65 300L Manual Trans, A/C and More

I measured it at .050 with a feeler gauge. So a few posts back I mentioned that the pistons that were removed from the 413 had a compression height of 2.022 and the new ones were advertised as 2.015 but that that measurement was not checked before installation. I think you said the stock...

Cat’s Out Of The Bag, ‘65 300L Manual Trans, A/C and More

So I have been going round and round about the camshaft like an obsession. It’s been and is frankly because I like to understand all I can. Maybe too anal but it is what it is. The heads is something else I’ve been looking at. The exhaust hardened seats were installed. While watching an Uncle...
