I bought a replacement tank for my 64 NY and it came with the drain plug already installed.

Have you tried jacking up the rear end, putting it in drive, and trying to narrow down precisely where it's coming from?

I have a 19 spline TC and you won't find any of those with different stall speeds. I had mine rebuilt to handle a higher stall (2800-ish). Not sure of the name of the company, but they came recommended to me by my transmission guy. You may want to consult a tranny shop and see what they say, or...

Commenced with chasing my tail until I went back and started from basics with TDC, factory specs, setting the carb idle and mixture...

I've done it, but I had that special tool, which you don't need if you drop the tank. If you're lying on your backside with a Skoal in your mouth and a flashlight in your ear daydreaming about Shania Twain...it gets tricky. Dropping the tank isn't all that difficult and it would probably be...

Carter does make a quality product. I have an electric in-line from them and it's been great. Although now that I've said that, I'm sure it'll crap out. Guess I better go get a mechanical pump now...dang it.

Some of us add this after each fuel refill to aid with lubing the top end. It has an additive that is safe for our older engines. I believe you add 1 oz per 5 gallons of gas. I've had luck with it and @detmatt was the one that told me about it.

The 8 3/4 on my 64 NY came with a breather

My breather screwed right in to the axle housing. Can you not unscrew the entire breather?

I concur with Big John. I have used Patty multiple times and the guy is 100% class and knows his stuff.

I use ATF+4 for my 64 NY, but to each their own I suppose. There's tons of back and forth about which tranny fluid to go with if you look through this site.
