Question on cleaning a gas tank

I've had success with three tanks. That tank in my 64 D100 is not made any more... (That I know of and I'm going to put one behind the axle one day) I used the chain, nuts, bolts and even gravel method. I've used Red-Kote without issues on all three. My 2cents. Craig

    727 to 904

Are you mechanically inclined? If so, the transmission can be torn down and diagnosed in 1-1.5 hours. It takes 4-6 hours to rebuild. I'm sure others could do it quicker but, that's how long it took me, 1st time in 2013. Craig

    Interesting spark plug coloration

Old fuel will stink and burn your eyes at idle too. CBODY67 gave you good advice, it's probably just a tweak of the carb. Craig

    Interesting spark plug coloration

Looks good to me. Color on electrode is halfway up arc. Seems carb is adjusted correctly. But....What's the oil on side of plug, valve covers leaking? Craig

Differential from 68 New Yoker or Newport

I have a hoard of hard parts, engine, diff, transmission etc. I'm cleaning the shop and need to sell some or give away some stuff. If I was an Abody diff it wouldn't be any question but, it seems the Cbody variety not to sought-after. I don't throw anything away if at all possible. I've tried to...

Differential from 68 New Yoker or Newport

Should have said mixed up. I had 3 and I wasn't sure which one was in it. I found a 741 with 294 today. I think that was in it.

Differential from 68 New Yoker or Newport

Is it worth saving! Complete diff with 741 case and 2.76 open. I thought it would be a 742 but, maybe got a couple of chunks messed up. WIW?

Need help reading 8 3/4 gear tooth pattern

I've rebuilt several over the years. The photos @john-9 posted all look acceptable. That's what you're looking for. Pattern looks too deep to me but, maybe you didn't load the ring gear. Normally the coast side is what to look at on used gears.

    727 Not down shifting. :(

I had the exact same issue with a 904 I rebuilt. It was a bad governor valve. Cleaning didn’t fix it and the shuttle moved freely. I had to replace it. As already mentioned, take it back but, the warranty is probably for the PO. It’s pretty easy to get the tail shaft off. I don’t remember...

    A-745 Transmission Lubrication

Few more things. How is the down shift from 3rd. If it’s smooth, I don’t think you have a synchro issue. When the shift to 2nd is complete, the synchro is out of the equation. The short lever should be at the rear of the transmission. Also, the levers should be in alignment at the column when...

    A-745 Transmission Lubrication

I had that issue with my A745 in my 64 D100. You can get the spring washers at the hardware store for the column. I had to hunt for the grommets when I rebuilt mine. I used some sorts of clutch grommet for one of the thick ones. I don’t remember which one though. It shifted very smooth without...

    Manual swap

Two other things not mentioned. The bell can be kinda hard to find but as MTMoparfan65 said, machine work can fix that. Warning that if you hot dog that 3rd gear in an OD, it may result in a scrambled mess. My 2 cents.

    Shotgun Adjustments, Now Troubles

Explain. You’re at 18 degrees at idle with no vacuum correct? When you say mechanical locked at 18, then you’re all in at 36 degrees mechanical correct? That’s not with vacuum advance.

    Lokar kickdown adjustment

Your basic issue is, the cable is too long, meaning not enough pressure on KD. The adjustment is very similar to the FSM. This assumes no VB modification or shift kit. Unhook Lokar and make sure you have WOT and know where it is. Pull the Lokar cable until you feel the slack gone. Tighten...

    Green axle bearing question

OK I understand now. Yes they look like the bearings are installed correctly. You have rear drums correct not Wilwood disk? Is the diff a sure grip? If it is open, then your ready to go. Go ahead and install new inner seals, even though they are not needed because greens are sealed. It adds...

    Green axle bearing question

Are you saying the green bearings leaked? The inward shoulder of the shaft butts up against the outward seal on the bearings. It’s cupped a little. If they weren’t on all the way, then your drum would stick out and that would be obvious.

    Recommendation for torque converter?

I just used a factory high stall from Precision of New Hampton. I called and spoke with a gal. I discussed my 76 440/727 that I have in my 64 D100. She asked a few questions and gave me a recommendation. I got it overnight to AutoZone no charge. Zero issues with it. Craig PS. You have a 451...
