727 trans pan gasket that doesn't leak??

The correct fill tube Oring is actually flat sided, not round. The hardware store round profiled rings pretty much always leak, sometimes worse than the original worn out square profile ones do. Kevin

727 trans pan gasket that doesn't leak??

I've rarely seen a pan leaking that loose bolts wasn't the reason. I've lost count of the number of leaking fill tube Orings that drool into the pan rail that make it look like the pan is leaking... Selector/kickdown shaft seals are a close second. Kevin

    General A727 Potential R&R questions/suggestions.

Gearvendors won't work with a pushbutton TF unless you were to go with a divorced unit which I don't think would be practical to do in a unibody car. On a truck or full frame car you can hang one aft of the trans like a hanger bearing and use a 2 piece drive shaft. Rick Allison does offer a...

    Lifter noise at start up

You need a new mopar mechanic friend. Absolutely no reason to change a camshaft just because it has 88,000 miles on it. My best guess on your problem is one or several of your "new" lifters, bleed down after sitting and they will rattle for a few seconds until engine oil pressure pumps them...

    Gear Ratios

My 71 has a 3.23 SG. I don't know if the original owner ordered the car or if it was off the lot. Somebody would have to check those 2 boxes off in the order for sure tho. Kevin

    fuel pump rod

What's wrong with your old one? If it measures to spec for length, use it again. The new ones are hit and miss, mostly miss for quality. A buddy of mine has had 2 fail in 1500 miles. He just ordered a 3rd from Hughes who insists has the only one that won't fail but he'll tell you that about...

    1973 400 wake up

Bucks down? Assuming the engine is sound, Factory thermoquad intake with properly sorted Thermoquad. Recurve the factory distributor. Get a multi key timing chain kit and advance the cam 4 degrees. 2.5" dual exhaust. 3.21 gears. It will roast the tires at will. Kevin

Who to blame for 440 Throwing a Rod

I'd be almost willing to bet when you pull the pan off, you will find the oil pick up plugged up with nylon timing gear teeth. Kevin

78 NYB Holley Sniper install.. the end of my lean burn fun

Bouchillion makes brackets and will sell with or without a compressor. BPE A/C Compressor Mounting Bracket Kit Big Block - Bouchillon Performance Engineering I would use Aeroquip EZ Clip hose and fittings system. The hoses are almost half the OD of the originals (same ID) and they don't...

78 NYB Holley Sniper install.. the end of my lean burn fun

If he's using the magnetic pickup in the distributor for a tach signal, I would recommend running a shielded coaxial cable from as close to the pickup as you can make the splice. There isn't an electronically noisier place on the planet short of a bolt of lightning than inside a distributor cap...

78 NYB Holley Sniper install.. the end of my lean burn fun

Make sure you keep any of the harness going to the Throttle Body away from the ignition wires, the distributor, coil, alterator and their associated wiring. These components are terribly noisy electronically speaking and will transmit all manner of crap to the ECM which will act on it, badly I...

Will a head upgrade bring compression up on 73’ Imperial?

What kind of shape is the engine in now? If it's not a worn out oil burner with decent compression, there are some super tune tricks that cost not much more than some time and the price of some gaskets. CBODY67 touched on a few of them. I would add that it probably needs a timing chain and...

    66 Newport T56 Swap

1st isn't any taller than an NP833 factory 4 speed. 2.66 was an 833 1st gear ratio and the 2.97 is pretty close to the 3.09 ratio for /6 and OD 833s. Kevin

    66 Newport T56 Swap

80 mph with 2.76, .50 OD and a 28" tire is 1325 RPM. I'm not seeing any stock stroke 440 delivering enough torque or horsepower at that RPM to hurl 4000+ lbs of Cbody through the wind at 80 mph never mind getting anything that resembles efficiency in the MPG department. I doubt a 5.9 Cummins...

    5 speed conversion

The new Tremec TKX is probably the best option for you as far as getting a 5 speed that will physically fit the space. 600 ft/lbs torque rating and a narrower footprint than a T56 or any other aftermarket trans. 2.87 1st gear available. American Powertrain does some Mopar kits but not likely...

    440 Headers

There is a reason Tti headers cost what they do. They fit with zero drama as do their exhaust systems. My buddy has a complete system, headers to tailpipes on his 66 Fury ragtop. All the hangers bolted into place and the pipes all met them as they should. Originally a single exhaust 383 car...
