    Won't Stop Cranking

If it's an OEM type conversion, a lot of the Chineseum "Orange" boxes are notoriously unreliable. Work when cold but die when hot with miraculous recovery once cold again is a recurring theme. I believe the OEM one needs switched 12v to the box, so if it's on the + side of the coil, it will not...

    Who rebuilds gauges?

It's probably the sender causing your problem. Sounds like the float could be sunk. Kevin

something is not right with the mechanical advance

Glad you found the problem. As for the Pertronix, or any other electronic triggered ignition, they will all tend to retard the timing not advance it. It takes time for them to to process the trigger signal, charge the coil and then trigger the coil. This time is fixed but the trigger speed...

Power window 1968 Chrysler ** UPDATE**

You can sorta kind of see them by peering through the gap between the door and the regulator. Not a lot of room or light to see so a good small bright LED helps to put some light on the subject. Depending on how good your precision depth perception is, your small pilot holes should land pretty...

Power window 1968 Chrysler ** UPDATE**

What I have done in the past is with the window up, pull the door panel off and then locate the 3 bolts that hold the motor to the regulator and drill a hole through the inner door over each bolt so you can get a 1/4 drive socket on them. This eliminates the possibility of bloodshed from the...

    65 318 Poly Mini Starter?

If it came factory with a gear reduction starter, the mini starter will swap ok. The confusion is because some truck applications and cars 61 and earlier used a direct drive starter. Kevin

    Vintage Tachometer Repair

Give these folks a call. They're just north of Kingston so not far from you. Good people to deal with. If he can't do it, he probably knows who can. Finding an Autometer type stepper motor and replacing the movement currently in it should solve the problem if Premium doesn't have an electronic...

    Voltage regulator

I wouldn't change anything if both systems are functioning correctly. That mechanical regulator has absolutely no idea that the ignition system is now solid state nor does the ignition system know that the charging system isn't. The only thing I can see that MIGHT happen THEORETICALLY, is...

You would have to jet up a few numbers probably for that much ethanol but that would dispatch the rattle for sure. Kevin

    Detonation - vacuum adjustment

You can check for excess slack quite easily. Get a socket and turn the engine backwards. Pop the distributor cap off and watch the rotor as you rotate it slowly forward. The crank should barely rotate before the rotor follows. I've seen them bad enough that the crank rotated from 12 o'clock to...

    Edelbrock Max-Fire

I wouldn't lose any sleep over running a mechanical regulator with the electronic ign if you don't have one. I've ran several ignition conversions without changing to electronic regulators with zero problems. Kevin

    Alternator issue

If the Bernzomatic can get it hot enough, yes. It needs to be heated bright red hot which might be a stretch for that Bernzomatic unless it is the 2 tank setup. Otherwise you might have to pay someone with an oxy/acetylene torch to do it for you. Kevin

    Alternator issue

That bracket looks similar to the one on my 318 poly 65 Polara. If you can't find a replacement, clean it up and get out the oxy acetylene torch and bronze rod and braze the worn spot up and die grinder/rat tail file to fit. If you aren't a stickler for originality, perhaps the later style...

Our Mz Ruby has a driveabilty/tune issue. Any thoughts?

Keep in mind if it still has the stock advance springs in it, it will take a good bit north of 3000 rpm to get close to max advance. That being said the weights can also seize on their pivots. You should be able to twist the rotor clockwise against the spring pressure and make the weights...

    Total power loss

If absolutely nothing works, even the dome lights, oil pressure light, nothing, my money is on the bulkhead connector if the battery isn't dead. Give it a shake and see what happens. Kevin

Can’t get an alternator to put out a charge

If the crank pulley diameter didn't change then deleting or adding the A/C pulley will have zero effect on alternator speed. Crank pulley dictates the belt speed and the alternator pulley size dictates how many RPM the alternator spins relative to belt speed. Kevin

    Dim Dash Lights - '65 Chrysler 300

Have you bypassed your ammeter? All the power goes through there first. If the connections there are getting crusty it will create resistance which would dim your lights. Also the heat generated could burn your car down. On later model cars, the resistance at the ammeter can actually cause a...
