I'm pretty sure that system runs the compressor full time unlike most that cycle it.
Of course the off switch should shut it off.

As for the engine swap, there's a couple of ways that could be.
Some 440's had the bosses like the 65 engines cast in but blank so all you needed to do was drill and tap them.
The other easier way was to get a Schumacher conversion mount bracket...
A steel crank 440 and transmission plus $800 is one of the options.
I think the car is worth $2500ish the way it is if it's all there. Not having to go look for parts lost from the engine removal is almost worth that much. Lol

The dash is probably black in person. For some reason when photographed, they always appear blue. Even that black brocade upholstery shows blue when photographed.
