Oil slingers SLING oil onto the moving timing chain. Leave it out and your timing chain ruins dry That's why it's called a slinger.

    Dumping gas

"Know what's in that path? The carburetor. Some have claimed that "insulator" was there to keep the valley pan gasket from cracking and leaking oil." The "bag" is a tappet noise suppressor. It has nothing to do with heating the carb. You won't find it on a 273, 318,36, will you but those...

    Spark Plug Issue

Run the car down the road for a mile or two in a lower gear keeping the engine rpms around 2500 to 3000 then pull the offending plugs. If they're still black, you have a fuel distribution problem. If they've burned off he carbon fouling, your choke was most likely the culprit and you just...

what is best size torque wrench to buy

I still have/use the Sturdevant beam and pointer torque wrench I bought in 1963 along with a slew of newer click type wrenches. As was mentioned earlier, calibration is important. I get mine re-calibrated periodically if I use them a lot. Beware of torque wrenches with plastic adjustment...

    question on harmonic balancer

383 and 440 should be a neutral balance damper. 400, on the other hand, are externally balanced so the dampers are NOT the same as the 383/440. Is the rubber cracking? Can you wiggle the outer rin at all? You can get it rebuilt at https://www.damperdoctor.com/ . I just had them rebuild the...

Aviation gasket cement. Haven't had that leak in 60 years on a slew of transmissions I've changed filters in on multiple occasions.

Goldie will get her orginal heads reconditioned.

"As for hardened seats. It is the valves that burnt not the head casting. Sure the seat is probably in bad shape, but the valve has less mass to heat up and go bad, why they take more of a beating." The seat erodes allowing the exhaust gasses to pass through the gap. That's what burns valves...

Goldie will get her orginal heads reconditioned.

"The hardening is only thousandth’s deep." Untrue. The hardened seat replacements are a totally different metal than the integral cast iron stock seat.

Goldie will get her orginal heads reconditioned.

....which is exactly why you want to put in the hardened seats. I'm doing that to another pair of 906 heads for my 383 ('69 Road Runner engine) cross-ram going into a '55 DeSoto station wagon.

    Bent Pushrod

This is the stuff you want to use on big block intake manifold gaskets. The "high tack" stuff works well on valve cover gaskets to hold them in place but it's too thin to adequately seal the steel shim intake gaskets. This stuff seals the intake ports on the steel shim gaskets. As for...
