1967 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible 440 4-speed

This is very rare C-body with factory maximum performance options.

General Information

This car was bought from the original 90+ year old owner in 1994 and shipped to PA via SoCal. It was his pride and joy, he ordered it and personally walked it down the assembly line. Restoration was completed around 2000.

I have a 67 Sport Fury 440 with a 4-speed Fast Top. This is the only other 67 440 4-speed I have ever seen. I notice that some of the photos show a Hurst shifter (which was not stock in 67) and others show the stock inland shifter. Mine was replaced with a Hurst as well. Love this car.
I've been trying to post photos to a garage, but I keep getting the message that they are too large. I am new around here, so could use some help.

I am still in awe over this Sport Fury, I love it that much . BUT I honestly think a white interior would go great with it, regardless though it truly is a beautiful Fury. Question, this car for some reason looks familiar, was this car in one of the Mopar magazines?
I picked up that 10/03 issue of Mopar Muscle today. Your car looks great!

Thanks Dan.

My car also had the Inland shifter removed and a Hurst shifter installed. This was probably completed shortly after first owner took delivery of the car.

Your car is an inspiration, PH27L7! You deserve all the kudos.:usflag: This car is lucky to have an owner like you. Stay well.

Wow! What a car. 440 HP and a 4 speed. Great job restoring it! Thanks for sharing.
For some reason they didn't use the 60 on C-bodies. My best guess as to why is that the 53 was available in more street friendly ratios, in this case 3.31 whereas lowest for 60 was 3.54. The 53 has nothing in common with the later corporate 9-1/4 other than the ring gear size.

Thanks for that. Everything I have read says the car came with the Dana 60 when you ordered the 4 speed. How can you tell the difference? I'm still looking for that "60" stamp on mine.

Dana 60 was used in B-bodies, not C's. Believe the parts book details this, they don't call them by the Dana #, just the ring gear size. They can be differentiated very easily, the 53 looks like the last pic above whereas the 60 has triangular areas on the left side of the housing to fit the larger ring gear. I'll try & post pics, won't let me here.

You are a mopar guru. "The Book" says only the GTX got the 9 3/4 in 67. What threw me off was I could not find the 9 1/4 in the 67 parts catalog. The "Motion" brochure also confirms it was the 9 1/4. Thanks for all of your help with my car. I'll be back for more when I make it to the transmission.

I always thought that I preferred the Polara... Now I'm not sure. The Sport Fury looks so good as a convertible. That is a truly gorgeous machine. I am absolutely in love with it. And it's a manual! With Budd brakes! That has to be rare. I wish my car hadn't been such a basket case when I bought it, or that I'd been smarter and tried to restore it to factory showroom condition. This car shows what's possible when you know what you're doing. I prefer the white top over the original black.

Do you plan to show this car? I would love to see it parked near mine somewhere in PA.
I've taken it to various shows & cruises over the years but now mostly just drive it occasionally on nice days. This year virtually all cruises have been shut down. Would be nice to see yours but since we're about 400 miles apart probably pics will have to do. Thanks for the thought though!

Gotta be the cleanest engine compartment I have ever seen. Wow, don't see many Furies with 440s, much less with 440s with 4 speeds.

What did you coat the exhaust manifolds with to give them that grey patina?

Thanks! Nothing fancy, VHT SP998 cast iron paint.
