I just got a 1969 Plymouth Fury III convertible. I was "breaking down" the trim tag. One of the codes (A17) came up "unknown". Digging a little more, (Broadcast Vin Fender Tag Decoder for Mopar Dodge Chrysler Plymouth) I found it to be " Fury 3 spr spec w/convert 69". I have the original invoice. The car was purchased July 31, 1969. It also appears to have been ordered (order # 583453) by the original owner and shows a "618" (June 18th) build date. Navigating this site, I found a post indicating the Spring Special had "eyebrow" moldings, which I do not have. I also notice I do not have a (lay down) hood ornament. I have seen some 69's with but most without.

Thoughts?

I suspect the hood ornament would not be a part of the Spring Special group as that change was federally mandated to "not spear" pedestrians who might slide over it, after impact.

My general suspicion of the Spring Special" equipment group is that it is mainly "color and trim" related, as those cars would have been ordered in the January or February time frame. That same option code could have also been used for the later-spring promotions where "Free Automatic Transmission" (in combination with a few other popular options) so the price saving would be reflected on the window sticker of the car? Although Dodge seemed to use it to bring out additional Polara models between the normal Polara and the Monaco in some model years.

Have you ALSO looked in the Dealer Order Guide, in the Library, at www.hamtramck-historical.com ? Might need to input that address manually.

Just some thoughts,

No moldings are called out in the package description. My gut feel is they are related so something else.
