Anyone have an idea as to where I can get a Torque Control Fan Drive for the 426-S engine in my '65 Sport Fury? These didn't really hold up well back in the old days which probably is the reason my engine is missing its unit. I kinda think one for a 426 Hemi might work, but I'm not sure. I'm not going to drag the car and it's definitely not a concours restoration, but I liked the way one looked on the one I had back in 1964-1967 and I would love to put one the car I have now.

The "torque control" fan clutches had a smooth front face. This was the first style of fan clutch that started in the earlier '60s and was then replaced by the "thermo-controlled" fan clutches of the later years (with the thermostatic spring on the front). The torque control de-clutched when a particular rotational speed was reached (usually about 3000 engine rpm?) whereas the thermo-controlled versions modulated "in and out" as radiator air temp varied.

Hayden is one of the two companies that seem to be selling fan clutches these days. The "flat fact" clutches generally are the least expensive ones. Almost all of them have a centering hole in the flange, but now with slots for bolt holes (rather than an application-specific drilled, solid flange.

For the older vehicles, you pretty much take what you can get, these days. Don't be surprised if the one you might need also has a Chevrolet V-8 application, by observation. Main thing to look for is the shaft length between the water pump flange and the clutch body. Plus the direction of fan rotation. Hayden has an online catalog that can be downloaded. RockAuto might be a good research website, too.

Just some thoughts,
