72 Fury Question
I have 8 1/4 rear. I am considering upgrading to 8 3/4 or Dana 60 (9 3/4). I did 8 1/4 to 8 3/4 switch on my 70 Fury. The 11x2 backing plate and brakes were exactly the same. Essentially, I bolted my old 11x2 brakes onto the 8 3/4, did the usual hose/line install, bleed, and I was off and driving. I wondered, if I found a Dana 60 rear, would the 11x2 brakes also bolt on? Or is the brake backing plate different for this axle? Thanks! Ben

If the Dana has car ends on it, more specifically Chrysler ends, then yes. Truck and other Ford and Gm ends in the aftermarket, they would not fit.

Great info BBD. Thanks!

I would not bother to modify a truck, GM, or Ford rear. Too expensive. I'd just do 8 3/4. I want something that could handle a 408 stroker if I decided to go that way. Also, 8 1/4 rears don't help resale value, although my Fury is NOT for sale. Thanks again, Ben

I would keep the 11 x 2.5 in brakes on the 8 3/4 and put that in. Dana 60 is overkill even for a small block stroker and is a bit heavier than the 8 3/4.

Thanks Gary. I doubt I'll stumble on a Dana 60, but I asked since I didn't know the answer and people here always do. What a great forum!
