My wife is a teacher at a small rural school. Today her 7th graders took it upon themselves, upon hearing the band playing the National Anthem next door, to stand, put their hands upon their hearts, and listen silently until it ended. Then, they clapped, sat down, and resumed painting.

I thought this was awesome and gives me hope for the future. This little town in Ohio also has a great festival that is as American as apple pie, which everyone in the community comes to see and participate.

Hope they remember that day forever. That moment will be there personal inner safe space while in a few short years a good chunk of them will be subjected to lefty lug nut hippie professors in college.:realcrazy:

My wife filled me in on a little extra. Her little school has a hard time keeping a band director. 25 students max in the marching band, so they get many new teachers, who stay for only a few years and move on to a bigger school.

This year they have another new band director. He wants every student to not only memorize the Star Spangled Banner but play it well, so they actually practice it every day.

Also this could be a first. My wife is the art teacher and co director of the spring musical along with the female choir director. Including the new band director, they are all conservative.
