Our 1976 Newport had that on a sticker on the rear window instead of the usual "Airtemp" sticker. I was wondering, does this mean this was not a factory A/C car but the A/C was added by the dealer? If so, it looked and worked just like factory. I've just never seen a sticker like that on any other Chrysler and I've always wondered about it.

On a car of that vintage, I find it curious that such a decal is on the car. I was thinking the
normal "Air Conditioned by Air Temp" decals stopped being used after the 1968 model year?

The wording on the decal does sound more like an aftermarket AirTemp, dealer-installed unit, BUT all of those units were "hang-down" under-dash units rather than being fully-integrated into the instrument panel. By the time your car was built, seems like the use of the word "Air Temp" was only on the "Air Temp II" factory automatic a/c systems?

Any of the prior dealer-installed "Factory approved" a/c systems were usually more "aftermarket-look" as to many of the under-the-hood components, rather than the same items being specific-use oriented (lines, receiver/drier, condenser, and such).

Pictures of the under hood area and the instrument panel?

Just some thoughts and observations,

Sorry but that car is long gone and I have no pictures. I can say this though--we took that car on a road trip from PA to Atlanta, GA during an incredible heatwave when the temp was over 100 and that A/C worked amazingly well! The car itself had a 360 2-bbl. and was very low-option car.

Got one on my Swinger. Dealer installed Chrysler Airtemp system. Let me look for a photo.

The A-bodies had factory a/c that was like the aftermarket "hang-down" units, but with factory-engineered hoses and such under the hood. Unlike the higher carlines, they had cycling compressors rather than cooling being modulated by an inline EPR valve (as on the C-bodies). The "Parts Division" notation in the decal could be telling.

In this case, I would suspect the dealer-installed units and the assy plant installed units were teh same thing, more than less?

Enjoy!

I did a Google search for "Chrysler Airtemp window decal" and it brought up the 1966-era decal like is on our '66 Newport Town Sedan. Which continued into several model years later. There was also one which went back to about 1960. Plus some older ones. All for factory a/c cars.
