turn signals and flashers are still out on the 68 300. I fear the culprit might be the turn signal switch in the column. I did find a supplier on eBay, but hoping to keep that as a plan B because of the cost of the part and not wanting to tear down my steering column.

My ideal plan A is the hopes maybe the issue is the flasher units because they are cheap. I found one dangling under the dash (don’t know if it is the turn signal or hazards). Replaced it, but still no blinking. I can’t seem to find the other. Any advice on where the other flasher unit is under the dash? Also, Are the flasher unit parts the same for the turn signals and hazards? The FSM says “heavy duty” for the hazards, but the friendly folks at the local Napa can’t find the difference.

As always, thank you!

If you take down the trim panel under the steering column that should give you access to both units. Some of them have a socket that holds one of the units in place behind the instrument cluster. Most of the two pin flashers still available will be good enough for the turn signals and hazard. Have you run a continuity check on the fuses to be sure that you are getting power to the turn signal switch? Often, the metal clips that hold the fuses corrode to where they no longer make contact with the fuse and the circuit is "open" Your '68, if my memory has not failed me should have 2 flashers.

Dave I am always so impressed with your knowledge and detailed response. Thank you! I completely spaced on that continuity check. I will tackle that next.

Any input on how to clean those fuse contacts?

A 223 bore brush on a GI cleaning rod works pretty good. You can bend the brush in the center at a 45 degree angle to allow easy access to the clips. The brass in the bore brush is too soft to damage the clips beyond removing the rust.

I am still in the process of diagnosing this turn signal issue. While I prepare for the worst and look for a new switch, I notice the rep ops all say “w/o tilt and telescope column” and as you might suspect, I have a tilt and telescoping column.

Does anyone have a source for a 68 300 turn signal switch for a tilt and telescoping column?

Thanks!
