I'm kicking around the idea of buying a car while I'm down in the F-L-A. (Nothing anyone here would want.) Quite honestly I'm seeing better prices and vehicles, plus no salt or pothole damage. Last time I made $2k driving a flip back north vs. losing $500 on return plane tickets, but this time the travel agent I sleep with scored round trip for three @ $300.

Any of y'all old fogies use alternate means to ship late-model cars up north? Trains? Ride-n'-Drive for meth heads escaping back to parents? A thousand dollar fee eliminates the price advantage, but $500...

This time I also plan to keep the vehicle, vs. flip so I'm not just doing it for profit. Here is what I'm talking about. This is what $5000 buys here vs. $5500 in the hurricane state. (Yes, I know one is newer, but that means nothing to me. They're mechanically the same.)

Shipping prices for cars headed north out of Florida drop quite a bit after Thanksgiving. The snowbirds will be shipping their cars down there between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and there will be lots of empty car carrier rigs desperate for something to bring back. You should be able to strike a good deal shipping terminal to terminal with DAS.

The empty load thing was what I was thinking as well.

The main drag through Longboat Key will be filled with car haulers unloading snowbird cars right after Thanksgiving.
Then reloading in May.
Maybe you can catch one of the big orange trucks heading home.

If you get as far as exit 57, US27, on I-4, maybe we can coordinate a meet.

I'll look it up on a map. Whatever day I dedicate to looking for cars could easily have me all over the state. That's what I did back in '14.

I don't know how you would verify that. . . And why bother? Just look for a true southern car.
This one's pretty easy, even a FL car parked too close to the beach starts to rust at all the fasteners... a quick peek at the suspension will tell the story.

Screw where she's been, just make sure you aren't importing more rust and everything will work out.
