heater control?

the black box on the inner fender. im guessing its for the heater and don't work cause its bypassed. what is it and what dose it do??

That is the Autotemp servo/ coolant valve. The original plastic ones often cracked and leaked...Mercedes used the same system and the new pricey re-pops are aluminum and solve most issues.
