is a hoodscoop required with a high rise intake

what carb or efi ? you might have to get creative with your air cleaner . i did a 69 383 dart with the eddy rpm intake . there was very short room for an air cleaner , but i was using an afb , there taller than holleys and most efi's . this is it in my 64 d100 . it sits tall .

it will have a holley. it looks like a scoop is a must - i'm just hoping for a good work around. thanks
 
mount the carb and make a clay tower on the top of your of it and close the hood , see what you have left to work with . i made it work it my 69 dart . it fit in my dart , less headers of course .

I just went through this as I am having a 505 built for my 69 Fury. I found an Rpm wouldn't work especially since I am going to use my factory dual snorkel air cleaner. I had thought about a drop plate that would fit the snorkel air cleaner, but between that and new motor mounts the rpm intake the math didn't work well. I went with a Holley Dominator single plane manifold as it sits very low ,flows well and many guys said I'm not going to be lacking in bottom end torque anyways. Like pomonamissle said ,I used a ball of aluminum foil to see where I'm at.
 
Well measure it up and do the math just to be sure. We are just giving you a heads up. Good luck and let us know what you find. Dont forget new motor mounts with add to the equation too.

Do this ^ and subtract 1/2 to 1" for movement to see what room you actually have. If you wrap the clay or playdoh in saran wrap it won't stick to stuff like the hood.

Hoping my 496 will clear with a Performer RPM under the hood of the Monaco. We’ll see if the lower deck of the 383 block will save me.

command1 , you must understand the manufacturing process here . the r&d engineering staff make some great power levels and great leaps forward of performance in cool rides . but then production engineers get a hold of the plans and wipe out most of the cool stuff , we would love to drive . do to cost of product and servicing these machines . and only offer up a limited supply of these cool rides . and as far as re-engineering the machines . i'm the first one to tell you , well you need to get school'd . factories only sell what they are willing to warranty , and banks write loads on cars that can be insured . just look at those birds n daytons that sat unsold for years . i saw as a teen ager in 1974 new birds n daytons at the dealer actions , because they can't sell them to the public . i even total my pop to buy one . he said ''you'll never get it insured to drive'' and today i can't imagine insuring a 1000 hp demon . and all these cars are in very limited production just like those top performance cars from back in the day .

I am no expert by any means but I was told the Performer not the Performer RPM was lower and may work. Doing research here and on FBBO being that I was going to be using it on a stroker RB the Non RPM Performer would not be as good as the Holley Dominator as it would starve the engine at higher rpms being smaller. FBBO guys and others here agreed the Holley will do the job well. The designer of my engine said ideally he would prefer the Performer RPM, but understood my hood problem. He said you would really be hard pressed to see much difference between the 2 manifolds. Not pushing the the Holley as I haven't even used it yet,just giving you info I found from others that I spoke with.

I used an Edelbrock CH4b on my 1968 sport fury 440. I am using an Edelbrock 800 thunder series series. I run my dual snorkel air cleaner with a smaller base plate that drops down. The ideal manifold would of been the performer rpm. I had a friend open up the manifold a little bit. Even with this manifold which was offered as a dealer add on in 68 it is very close. Be careful with your measurements and good luck. Best of luck with your back surgery. I wish you a full and speedy recovery
