Nearly 60 years off the tracks, the world's largest steam locomotive roars

Got sidetrack to YouTube from Facebook for the BigBoy video today (can't believe I'm spending the afternoon watching old train videos) It is awesome though.

Here's a closeup video with a pretty good flyby I found.

Those people standing in the gauge in the first part of that video are fu&kin' idiots. You never stand in the gauge of an active rail line. You need to be at least 30 feet away from the tracks to avoid being hit by any object that could be hanging off the side of the train. To this point just a few years ago the UP's 844 struck and killed someone standing next to the rail taking video and was so fixed on the view screen they never saw they were in the way of the train.

Yea in another video I saw where the guy puts the GoPro between the rails for the underneath shot, he was smart enough to be standing way back at the grade crossing and he told some old folk's that were close to the crossing gate "you may want to stand back away further" as the locomotive was puking out a ton of steam from the sides and top. They did move.
