1972 Chrysler New Yorker Coupe - £12,500 - Penzance, Cornwall, England

FB Description

1972 Chrysler New Yorker 2dr 440 auto. (YouTube video link below) This stunning New Yorker was imported from Texas a few years back. The previous owner has fully sorted it mechanically with many new parts making it a jump in and drive anywhere car. It has a strong 440 and auto box with no issues and drives really well. A few of the parts replaced are tires, brakes,4 barrel carb, distributor, cam etc.

In my ownership, I’ve had the car fully repainted and the driver's bucket seat and centre console recovered which makes the interior look fantastic! The Chrysler has power steering, power windows, and seat. It still has a single exhaust but with its flow master muffler sounds like a beast! Totally solid underneath and has just been wax oiled. Also comes with a set of full-size hubcaps. The fuel gauge has a mind of its own but that’s about the only fault with the car. So If you’re looking for a stunning fully sorted monster 440 powered Mopar this is the one! £12,500 but open to serious offers.

Thank you for posting. Nice, rare 2-door 1972 NYer with F6XW interior (Note: not an NYB). On the downside, I see a cracked dash, missing washer bottle, missing driver's seat hinge cover, non-stock speakers on the rear shelf, and a weirdly folded passenger seat cover (ripped, should have been re-upholstered).

@Jeffrey Robidoux, @oliver, and @71Polara383 will likely be interested to see this example of a cream-body NYer with a painted white top -- given the C-pillar moulding, the car originally sported a vinyl top.

The fender tag is undecipherable in the video, but the view at 1:52 shows that it is not heavily populated. I see power windows, fender repeaters, and A/C.

I found a video of the car dating back to March, showing what the car looked like before partial refurbishing and repaint. One can see that the car sports V7X stripes, which have disappeared since:

One good news is that the tag is (partly) visible starting at the 5:44 mark in that video. What we see confirms a V1X black vinyl top, V5X black side moulding inserts, and V7X black accent stripes. If I read the scheduled build date correctly, it is April 14, 1972 — 10 days later than @oliver's NYer (whose SBD was April 4, CH23T2C254070):

A good question is the original color -- it looks like the tag says ?B1, which should be GB1 light blue, a reading that would be supported by the trunk view at the 7:09 mark (which looks like a cream repaint over B1 "Blue Sky"):

European Ignorance Question: I've seen US plates on vehicles in Europe more than once. How is it that you don't have to put on plates from the nation you live in?

As an Ex-Patroit Brit I would say the UK licence plates could be produced and purchased at an auto parts store. The actual plate HHR 754K is age appropriate for the car and that registration number will have been allocated by the Department of Transport. The registrant would bring his registration to a store that would stamp out the actual plate. When I lived there I bought self adhesive letters and cut down a piece of reflective yellow painted metal and made my own plate for a motorcycle. So what looks like it might be a Texas plate on this car really isn't. I hope that answers the question.

I bought this car, it will go to Poland :)
Congrats! If you could post the fender tag for the history buffs, that'd be much appreciated.
Great, that makes 2 nice Mopars in Poland. The other member just finished his restoration earlier this year if I recall correctly, can't recall his forum name but someone else will.
That's @Unix -- his thread is here.

with regard to the licence plate,a lot of people have american style licence plates made, by a company in france belive it or not. they are not really legal, but the police don't seem to mind as long as your normal driving is within the law. black and silver plates are legal on pre-73, cars, normal plates are black lettering on white at the front and black lettering on yellow for the rear.

The car is already with me :)
Thank you for posting the tag. Three questions:

Q1. I read CM23M2C259578 (tag) rather than CM23M2C259678 (fender tag decode you posted). The first one is correct, right?
Q2. V5X is the code for the black vinyl inserts in the bodyside mouldings -- not a stripe (that would be V7X, which your car also has).
Q3. I misread the color code when viewing the video posted by a prior owner's friend. I thought it was GB1, in fact it is EW1. So your car is triple-white with the white interior and vinyl top. The question is: are you planning to install a vinyl top?

Congrats again on getting the car: enjoy in good health!
