In 1988(??) or thereabouts, I was driving across the length of PA and I think it was in the Scranton area that I saw something that blew me away. I'm really dusting off some thick cobwebs so I'm not sure of the specific location but let me try.
I was traveling East to West and I think my route had me going West on I-84 through Scranton to continue West on I-80.
I remember an area of Interchanges that during rush hour was FUBAR. Trying to keep my bearings, I then remember looking up the side of a mountain and high up was a Yuge scrapyard. The combination of location and size was incredible.
Does this sound familiar to anybody that travels that area. ?

I was told by a guy who used to live on that end of PA about a mountain covered in cars... he said it was all crushed some years back. In my more recent salvage yard hunt, I am finding lots of plowed fields and an occasional golf course... tree farms and golf... what a waste.

We used to have three yards right next to each other in southwest Cook County that didn't crush the older cars. Unfortunately they are all gone now. A lot of good parts for all makes are now Honda's.

I doubt this is it... but it's the best I could come up with being the google novice I am.
try this:
400 Morgan Highway
Scranton, PA 18508

So, I went to Google myself and found this.
Matches up to what I remember kind of well.

you guys are talking about DeNaples Auto Parts. I grew up in the Scranton area, we used to go there all the time. You would not believe the stuff sitting there at that time. A lot of it has been crushed. they do still have a lot there but it is mainly 80's and newer cars. It sits on the eastern edge of I-81 in Dunmore by the I-81/I-380 junction. They now use the old Erie Railroad shops for their main office which is on Mill Street in Dunmore. The original yard is now the U-Pull It shown in the pic posted by Cantflip but it's only abt 1/3 the space the original yard took up. You can pull both up on Google maps and see them. I was lucky enough to spend countless hours up there back when they allowed you to go in the yards and walk around just to look at stuff. i'll try to find some pictures of it from back in the day. I remember seeing cars from the 50's-early 70's with trees growing up in the engine bay, some were there from the most minor stuff like a tranny slipping, etc.

Man, the good 'ol days..........Scranton had so many good junkyards I'm sure I cannot remember them all.

Funny, Google Earth looks like that spot is cleared out... or I am disoriented as usual. Give me a break though... 20 odd years in Pittsburgh and 15 in Orlando... my "street compass" never really had a chance. Ft Myers and Naples were the only places I ever knew which way was north.

Now if you want to get lost in the depths of hell... find an address in Cape Coral, then attempt to drive to it.

i remember seeing that on 81-s headed to carlisle.
a mountain side of cars on the left side, somewhere near the wilkes-barre exit. my buddy bought a front clip for his roadrunner there (25 years ago).
