Car is a 1961 Chrysler Newport .
Since i have got the Silver Whale on the road about 5 months ago i have been replacing electrical components.
Car was imported about 8 years ago by previous owner so it has sat for quite a while without being driven .
I have replaced Ignition switch , ballast resistor and starter relay so far .
When i installed the starter relay i noticed that previously the yellow wire from the ignition switch had been connected to the neutral safety switch terminal and the brown wire to the ignition switch terminal.
The car had been starting and running but how is this possible .
I thought the yellow wire excited the starter relay .
Could someone please explain ?

Might check at www.mymopar.com for a downloadable service manual and check the wiring schematic to see what's supposed to be where. Might also look at www.jholst.net too.

The starter relay just connects the two terminals together, it doesn't matter what the direction it is going. That's why it's starting and running just fine.
