I found the bulkhead connector in my '71 Chrysler 300. I'm surprised there have not been issues with shorts from water dripping. (Had that problem with an old '93 BMW 325 where the ECU was placed right under the hood drain.)
Does anyone have any tips for cleaning the connector and connections? Is it better just to replace it?

thank you,
Todd

I do have the shield, I removed it to take the picture. It was not as nice looking as yours is!

Once the connectors of the underhood wiring are removed from bulkhead connector, the entire assembly will unclip from the firewall and drop into the passenger compartment. There are fairly large spring clips that hold it in place.

Although tedious, it's a job that needs to be done, and no new parts are needed unless you need any new female and male spade connector terminals.

Each wire will be removable from the connector housing and the bulkhead assembly for cleaning and repair/replacement if needed. Each female spade connector has a tab that is pressed down by a jeweller's screwdiver or special tool to release. Each male spade connector has a tab that can be pushed into the centre to release. Do one at a time.

You answered my next question of how you keep track of which wire goes where - do it one at a time. :) I have proper spade connectors, pins to remove them, and Detoxit. Sounds like a relaxing Saturday project.
