Welcome Superbird Steve to FCBO!

Welcome, from down near Morris. Unfortunately you just missed the C body show at the Volo museum. Any specific model catch your eye?

I host the Chicagoland Mopar Connection show the day after the Volo (Illinois) C-body show (just north of Volo in Fox Lake IL). A few of the C-Bodies come up after Volo. Besides wanting a 70 300-H for many years, I have looked for a 4-bbl big block 1968-70 4-door. I knew of one (south Chicago suburbs) with either 3 or 4 speed in the 90's (I have to look at my notes for exact details). We had estimated maybe 1 or 2 cars were factory with the set-up it had.
Thanks all for the welcome. I'll post some pictures of the 64 in a bit.

True barn find. Southern Calif car new. Have all original documents. 3 of the 4 headlights are date coded 1964, so the 11K odometer could be correct. Currently trying to get the rear brake drums off. I think 65 C-Bodies no longer had the taper shaft challenge!

Superbird was removed from a Virginia barn around 2005 or so. Had 1978 tags on it. I can't find anything about the person that owned the barn and car. He had passed away and the family sold it to one of the owners before I bought it.

=== anyone remember this car?===

The photo of it in the field was after removed from the barn and cleaned up. So that is how it would have looked in 1978 around Virginia. The Petty Blue with white top, black "PLYMOUTH" decals, and no nose decals make it unique. White tops were not stock.

Before 1977 it was the original B5 blue, white bench seat, automatic on column. In 1977 it was painted Petty Blue after it had some passenger side damage (lots of filler putty).

So, let me know if you think you know this car. thx!

(sorry about the water marks: I don't like when web spiders pull your pictures and put them on their page).

Thats a beauty! Is that Petty blue?
The car is painted 1973-ish "Corporate Blue". The Superbirds were painted Corporate Blue in 1970, but that was a different shade (paint mix is different tinting from 1970 to 1973). Since the paint job was done in 1977, it does not look like either shade now! The Corporate Blue is often called Petty Blue, but "Mopar" never made an exact duplicate of the color for legal reasons.

Thanks all for the welcomes!

Those 1964 Chrysler New Yorker Salons were great cars back in the day - fully optioned with just about every option as standard. Still pretty rare cars. I hope you will be able to make it at least a very nice driver.

I also love Superbirds (who doesn't!) and would like to see yours taken to the next level hopefully as well. Such amazing cars.
When you say the white vinyl top was not stock, do you mean it wasn't original to your car or that they were not offered by Chrysler?

Vinyl top could be any color... as long as it was black. Possibly because it was a unique cut, so they didn't want to stock more than 1 color. There are several 'Birds out there with white tops, and one that claims it is factory. But, most likely, that was a dealer installed top at original owners request.
So, from the factory, every Superbird had a vinyl top and it was black.

About taking it to the next level... I think there are too many Superbirds restored to "Day 1". I think we should not forget that muscle cars were often tinkered with on "Day 2". New rims, wider tires, speed tricks, maybe a racing stripe, etc. A "state of the art" drive train is not unusual. Instead of doing it in 1977, I had to wait a few decades to afford to get one and make my changes. It just happens to be done as "Day 18,000". LOL

Thank you. A LeBarron in New Zealand? Must not be too many of those in your area!
It was intended, but at around $NZ 7 000 to ship and approve for registration and fuel prices around 2 30 a liter (approximately a quart and 4 liters to a gallon) the average C-Body would cost around $NZ 230 a tankful so I sold it to Doc McNeedy in Minnesota instead.

I'll get another car in a few years when funds are better, something small like a 62 Studebaker Lark, or a (British) Rover 3500 Vitesse, V8, 5 speed manual, 130 mph. Thx for the comment.
