Hi All!

I wanted to put new seals and bearings in my steering gear according to my FSM. I ordered a rebuild kit and started the job.

First plan was to replace the two output shaft bearings since those are easy to get to. However. When I disassembled my steering gear I found out that it doesn't have any roller bearings?

This is my FSM. It's for a 1968 chrysler Newport.

This is what I found in the steering gear. Plain bearings? No roller bearings like in the FSM?

Mopar used that gear box casting number from '65-72 and there were several changes to the unit over that time. The same casting number also appeared in A-Bodies and B-Bodies. I suspect someone replaced the gear at some point with one that "fit" that is not the same internally as the OEM unit.
