Thank you to everyone for your advice,
An Update,.... I fitted a repro Ballast Resistor I just discovered in Oz and WTF it started up right away! Yeah!
In case of another failure and for the benefit of other members, can you by-pass wire it to get you home, saves waiting hours for
B#* Tow truck !!

Good to hear it's fixed. A spare ballast resistor should be in every glove box.

Yes you can by pass it but only for a very short time. By-passing it pumps 14 volts to the points and coil. Not good. The points will take a beating and the coil will over heat. It will get you off the road , to the parts store or home as long as it's not a 4 hour ride.
