Mathilda, Our Lovely 66 Newport, Wantonly DESTROYED by a Gen Xcrement Sociopath!

Glad you're all safe, and sorry about your car. By the way I'm a "gen xcrement" and whomever doesn't like it can pi$$ off. Don't be a bias p.o.s. you don't know me anymore than the head of general mills.
Really an inappropriate post. Sorry about your car, I really am, but accidents happen and we deal with them through police reports and insurance claims and then repairing the vehicle. Like many have added to your post, I'm very glad you and yours did not sustain personal injuries. Be thankful. Cars (even classics) are still just cars.

Seriously, if all you can do is self identify with the person who caused the accident... please go away or remain silent. One would think by your responses that YOU were somehow attacked by Gerald's description of events... which even though tragic, are a quite amusing read.

BTW, 1968 and I didn't identify with GenXcrement even a little. Perhaps he should have omitted gender or added a racial aspect? I've been reading @Gerald Morris for years and have never felt him to be bigoted in any way. He just got screwed and he's unhappy about it, if the story was mine it would have contained a number of four letter words.

:thankyou: and :welcome: please keep on with the car talk.

Hey Gerald,

Sorry to here about Matilda and glad everyone is ok.

Not to pick at the scab, but if you find it in you to show the side damage, it would help us amateur and professional damage appraisers better understand what repairs you are dealing with.

Do not walk blindly into the OP insurance company's authorized garage. In my state, the law allows them to total loss the car and brand the title with or without my cooperation. Start with your insurance, which I hope is agreed value, and probably a lawyer. Once the other insurance company brands her, Tilly is likely done for. You know the right AZ folks that I do for better local advice.

Stub frame... I know you have already worked that one out... I would recommend that after it has been put in place, use a tape or piece of string to verify that distances are the same from suspension mounting locations... including diagonals. A quick and cheap way to help assure that the structure of the body shell truly didn't get affected. Careful not to panic over small tolerances possible from slop in the mounting locations.

Front metal hopefully exists I just took another inventory survey of the AZ yards around Phoenix, I'll look through the pictures in the next few days and send you anything useful I've seen. 1/4 work is going to involve a welder... hopefully it isn't too bad/deep.

Sorry again that you are in this situation... even with all of the fun I've had with Orlando drivers and insurance companies... I'd be sick if it were one of my prized vehicles that was damaged.

Jeff

I said myself, "its just a car", when compared to what could have happened to Gerald and his daughter, it is a loss that Gerald is dealing with and looking for a bit of help from the members here. That help came in many ways, some technical, some advice dealing with insurance and yes, some sympathy for his plight.

We share a lot in this forum, not all car related. This is a loss that has obviously effected Gerald, and I'm really feeling bad that you can't understand that.

Next time a thread like this " bothers" you enough to make a comment like that, go to the upper right corner and under "thread tools" you'll see "ignore thread". Mash that button and the thread will no longer be seen by you.

I'm really sorry to see a wrecked car, but you're incredibly lucky that your child didn't die. A tremendous tirade when you were clearly distracted, her insurance company will have a field day with this post if they find it, and you should delete it. Pay attention to safety seats and other drivers both.

I agree with the above statement regarding her insurance co. using your words against you. If you don't/won't delete this thread, then at least change your screen name to something other than your real name. Seriously dude.

But at least you and yours are safe. Which I believe you stated was the whole entirety of why you selected and chose Tilly in the 1st place. She did her job & did it well. For all the love & care, blood sweat & tears she received, in the end, Tilly is just a THING. Not even a pet. A car can be replaced, lives cannot. I am grateful y'all aren't seriously hurt. It's nothing to drink or self medicate over. You mention you're on anti-addiction meds. Cling to sobriety brother. I myself am a retired alcoholic Super-Villian formerly known as the Heinous Anus. 19 years, 6 months & 9 days ago I swore a holy oath to only use my super powers for good and have not found it necessary to consume lethal quantities of high octane hooch since then.

The only time I have ever accepted a "buyback" of a totaled vehicle was to salvage all the goodies I previously installed into it. My current Project Turd is wearing $4k just under the hood alone. So far it represents over $9 grand invested, probably much more than it's worth to any insurance co. And I'm still not done. But it's not a daily driver either, I have a pickup that is my work horse. Wifey has her own cruiser, a '12 Avenger. The "Turd" only clocks 100 miles a month at most, mainly car shows, parades, and maybe a quick trip into town for an errand, just so it doesn't dry rot or the fuel doesn't go stale. I too am careful when I get out in it. It's not just Gen Xers or mellinials we have to look out for. Plenty of drunken, sloppy, or just plain inattentive drivers of ALL generations wandering about nowadays.

IF you do decide to hire an attorney, change your screen name before this thread ends up as evidence in court. True or not, that's a lot of hate. It'd be a shame to learn it's gonna be held against you. Please try to focus on the good, don't dwell on the negatives or it'll eat away at you and rob you of joy you might not notice or enjoy otherwise.

Good luck to you Jerry. Godspeed, and good fortune to you & your house.

BLESS YOU JEFF! We're hunting for a lawyer who ISN"T just a damned ambulance chaser, but THOSE ARE RARE HERE! ALL those whom I've tried to date start off interested, then, as soon as I report that both my daughter and I walked away intact from the wreck, it's "Sorry, we only work on cases when there are injuries." One offered to do something for a $1k retainer, but made it clear she wouldn't exert her precious legal head-fat MUCH for such paltry sums.

Sooo, the Family has Resolved:

Mathilda is FAMILY, and WILL NOT BE SOLD!! She faithfully served us over 5 years, after we raised her from her tomb, and we WILL keep her! I already informed wife I would wipe my arse first on any check offered by the guilty party's insurance company. Wife agrees its MY Duty to do so.

I MAY compile a list of ALL the receipts I've kept and sue the nasty perpetrator directly. I suspect she really plans to skip the State, this time for good. A creature with 5 aliases and 13 residential addresses on file in less than a decade likely has done PLENTY to make itself hated i BOTH of the States I've found spoor in so far.

Gotta get a damned Uber! Wife just msged. Kid get's out EARLY today and they DON'T want her hanging about for 2.5 hrs.

Grrrr!

Hope THAT wasn't "inappropriate." Some folks are SOOOOO THIN SKINNED! You'd think they drove Chevy Vegas or Ford Pintos, NOT MoPar C-bodies! Maybe they need to find new cars to drive, eh? I'll pray for them, that God helps 'em find their souls, even if it takes a tunneling electron microscope.

 Vega's and Pinto's were punishment for the generation before us... only a problem for us younger folks when we decided to get something "old enough to NOT have a computer" and got bad/ignored advice. Pintos weren't really that bad... but excellent birth control.

My advice for WIW is to get something drivable fast... GM cars from the mid 90's to mid 2000's (lesabre, park ave, 6000, etc) lack sex appeal... but were made in huge quantities, I still see them go for under $2k, mechanical parts a easy and cheap, 3.8l were very reliable and even the supercharged ones don't have much value. It will probably sell for about what you pay for it, low stable prices... and will beat walking.

Lawsuit doesn't sound like a good plan, unless funded by an ambulance chaser... injuries may take a few days to appear and likely will be covered up to a small number automatically. FL passed a silly law that requires a hospital visit and referral to a chiropractor within x days to cash in. The system has designed itself that everyone HAS to cash in to have any financial leverage. I've skipped it and only chased my damages for the 99 GMC I never fix... its more than paid for itself from the accident payouts, but is now getting too old for full coverage to get me much leverage ($3500 value last accident... impossible to replace with anything as well maintained mechanically for that).

As stated, if you give the OP insurance a chance... they will likely take it out of your control... tread carefully.

I'm not bothered at all, I felt the calling of names was inappropriate, sharing with the group about the damage to a car seems completely in line. Thanks for your reply.
Andrew

thank you, my other car is a Pinto wagon, the wagon solved the birth control problem( that is if you're referring to the size of the back seat and not the lack of sexiness)

The '68 Newport is coming TOMORROW! Were it not for THAT, I'd be sorely tempted by a 2004 Dodge Magnum I saw this morning when returning the Yoo-hawl. Here's a "Life hack" for the youngsters reading my senile autistic junky words:

If you need a cheap car rental in a HURRY, get a U-haul! At just $19.99/day + $0.59/mi., they offer a deal hard to beat! You get a full sized vehicle, either a van or pickup for that. These have all the State-of-the-Fart computo-safety crap widgets too. Engine mismanagement that wants to seize the gas pedal from you, shutting off at every traffic light you stop at, cameras to show you where you're backing because the mirrors and windows are poorly placed for it. LOADS of Advanced Design Features like that....

We have NO intent of letting the insurance companies dictate what to do with our vehicle. I thank the Lord I found that '68 Newport, even though I'll have to work it over good to initially make it GOOD and driveable. At least its running well enough I think to get wife and Kiddo 1 to the elementary school, fetch groceries and such as its predecessor did. I suspect every part I've got in the shed and storage can be used on the 68, excepting the old headlight switch, tail light lenses and '66 specific items. I'll be getting another 383 this way too! This gives me the option on which to run for now in the new landboat: that which comes in it or the other, proven one with the rebuilt tranny. I'll likely want to install that rebuilt tranny soon enough unless this one's VERY good. We'll know tomorrow.

My point here is that I can SUPPORT this one without buying anything outside our Mopar B block, C-body horde! I ALMOST committed to a '79 LeBaron w a 360, until I researched some matters about Lean Burn, and the fact that that one IS NOT RUNNING AND HAS NOT RUN IN A YEAR!!! Seals go bad when they sit like that, and I have NOTHING here to support it, though a 360 is a good LA plant of course. I'd ditch the Lean Burn unless it WAS running GOOOOD.

Stay tuned! While THIS thread is winding down, I started a couple dedicated to the NEXT Morris C-body, which will be publicly christened when the title is transferred tomorrow.

heck ya! There better be pics with that new post. You know how much we love pics!!

I'll be SURE to furnish new pix! Another slabby and a BEAUT! she is and WILL BE EVEN MORE! Oh yessss Most Preciousssss, We loves eyekandy We doesssss! gollum! GOLLUM!!

I gotta go to Mass JUST to say prayers of blessing on you, Jeff, Stan and SO MANY MORE Good Folks here. Your charitable advice to this poor young errant soul surely will do him good too. I'll really pray for HIM also, that he learns how a Creator LOVES HIS CREATURES! This holds, be they little creators like my sorry old junky arse, or the Big One.

Bless YOU again John! My Little ones will appreciate your wise words too.

I had a 1992 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight. Bought it from an impound auction with 260K miles on it. Didn't die until almost 300K. I miss it; was definitely my favorite non-Mopar.

Sorry i didn't read everything ,I have a 67 polara 4 door Canadian 318 poly with rotted front floor pans. It has a fresher recorded radiator and refurbished right exhaust manifold. It runs, needs a carb rebuild. Losing my spot for it. Had it for 28yrs. Not good at loading pics. Was hoping to get 1k for her. Pm me hope I remember how to do that . Car is by O'hare airport. Sorry for ur loss

Both... sorry AND congratulations... Funny how pinto's became so scarce after so many folks found good ways to use them up... they were better cars than their reputation

Pintos were actually pretty decent, and ahead of their time. ALL those little old Fords blew up when ***-****** hard, Falcons and my Fave, the Disgustang. We had a Pinto for a yr or so. The little Bundesrepublik motor and tranny ran fine in the thing, but Dad then found a Maverick he liked better on a trade. I was reared in a Fordian household. Wallace Democrats who went Republican. Liked guns, Buttwiper beer and ignorant SUB-urban bliss. I hated that crap, big BIG!

Gerald, you are a nut case. This is big train wreck.
If your precious car did not have collision coverage and an appraised or stated value the buck stops with you. If you have collision coverage make a claim and the insurance company is going total or repair the car. They will go after the other persons insurance company. If it's a total you can buy it back from them and get it repaired. That's it. Please get some help.
