I am installing an after market Amp gauge in my 65 Polara. On the back of the gauge there are 2 post left has (G) stamped beside it and right post has an (I) stamped beside it. Dose this indicate G to ground and I to hot wire when ignition is turned on. Also can I just leave the dash idiot lite for amps plugged into dash,, Any help appreciated,, Dave

It sounds like you are installing a voltmeter type gauge, not an amp meter. The G terminal on a voltmeter goes to ground, the I terminal goes to a keyed voltage source. Leaving the idiot light hooked up won't hurt anything.

Idiot light?

Never saw an idiot light for the charging system in any old Dodge. Your car should have the factory ammeter, but unless I'm really wrong, there's no idiot light.

Oil pressure idiot light... Yes, there would be one of those.
