Hi,
I need help decoding the engine code in my 1966 Polara fender tag.
According to the VIN, it is a G engine (383), but I couldn't find information for code in the fender tag.
I appreciate if anyone can help decoding the engine code.
Thanks!

It is a 383, the numbers 64 under the AB codes tell you that. In the US the codes are 61 for a 2 barrel engine, and 62 for a 4 barrel engine. My '66 Canadian Monaco has the same 64 code on the tag.

The website dodge charger.org has an online decoder that can help you, but not all the codes given will be correct, but it's generally easy to determine what code you should have.

Hi LocuMob! Thank you very much for the information! I checked charger.org website before and it says (INVALID) for the AB = 64.
I just bought the car. It has a Polara 880 badge and I believe the tail lights and trim are very similar to a Monaco.

That's a sharp looking car! Yep, Monaco taillights and base model trim.

Thanks! The car is in very good shape. I know it is off topic here, but since you have a 383, I was wondering what is the oil pressure hot at idle in these engines?
Mine was around 10psi hot and 45 psi cruising. I decided to increase the pressure and put a few washers to increase the tension in return spring in the oil pump. Now it is around 15psi hot at idle and 50 psi cruising.
Any information would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!

I've never seen that. I Googled around and saw lots of Polara 880 pics with Polara trunk trim but only a few sporting the Monaco taillights. Option or factory miscue?

Kevin
I'll have to look at my brochures when I get home. Probably should have Polara trim and lights, but I'm not sure.

May be a USA built car built for Canada sale? It also may have had the USA non-500 Monaco tail lights and trunk lid installed down the line... collision repair...

1966 Dodge Full Size Brochure

Unfortunately the Canadian brochure is very lacking in pictures of anything but the Monaco but the description of the Polara 880 says he tail lights are the same as the Polara and Polara 440

Thanks Shooter65! I found some videos and pictures of the Polara 880 and maybe the trim in the trunk lid was replaced by the lenses? I believe the trunk lid with the DODGE in between the tail lights is actually from the Polara.

Interesting - I was told that Monaco tail lights don't fit in Polara trunk lids due to the size of the bucket, but who knows. What I do know is that all Monacos (USA or Canadian issue) had MONACO on the trunklid, and Polaras had DODGE on the trunk lid.

Since your car has Dodge on the trunk lid, it's likely that Monaco tail lights were installed, and perhaps modifications were made to the trunk lid to enable that.

The taillights should be the Polara style on the 880, the brochure shows a rear view and that's what it was wearing. Your car did come with the side trim, though.

Thanks Ross, now I need to go look at my trunk lids to see what the difference is. :poke:

When I have the chance, I will check internally the trunk lid to see if it was modified for the DODGE letters or to fit the taillights.
