'68 300 Convertible saved!

That car looks great. I have a blue version of this car with a white top. Love the slabbies!

Great car. Great save!

We are making progress! This week I was able to remove the gas tank for cleaning. During this process I repaired the sending unit and replaced the float. My boys were nice enough to help clean out the interior after I gave it a initial scrub to get rid of any rodent droppings or other nasty stuff.

Upon removing the bulk of the convertible top I found the front header panel damaged by rust. Luckily a member sent me a lead to a replacement. Hopefully it works out!

My next hurdle is replacement of a leaking core plug on the driver side of the block. It shouldn't be that bad of a r'n'r because I have a straight shot to access it.

We are currently waiting on accessory belts, air filter and a master cylinder. After the car is mechanically sound we will tackle the windshield, seat covers and convertible top.

I'm starting to think this would make a pretty cool tow vehicle for my 68 GTS that I occasionally use for a quarter mile therapy.

Have a good Saturday and thank you for following along : D

Glad your boys are into giving a helping hand!

A friend surprised us by showing up with his newly acquired factory corporate (Petty) blue n96 (fresh air hood) 383 4-speed beeper. I'm still in shock! I'm very, very happy for him. He has chased this one for 20 years!
I believe its a 1969?, my favorite year! My uncle worked at chrysler dealer as mechanic back then, I was 7 at the time and bought a brand new 1968, vit-c orange with black out hood. Loved riding in it!, especially when my dad drive it. Be glad to see your 300 done! Good luck!

Jeremiah, turn the radiator hose clamp around before you slit the artery on your forearm and bleed out before you get to a hospital, where in the NW jungle do you live? .growing up near the silver dollar bar, Racine County Mike

I used to live on Kraut Rd in Franksville right off I-94@Hwy 20. I moved to OR for my job in 2008. We are 60 miles North of the CA border.

Good eye on the hose clamp. I'll correct that right away.

Speaking of hoses...does anyone have good part numbers for the upper a lowers?

Whats the license plate frame?

Dick Knight Medford OR. I've owned several cars and a 65 W100 that had Dick Knight frames. My understanding is that DK sold used classics in the 70s-80s before the Corvette guys started buying Mopars. I'm 85% sure I have an undamaged DK frame in the attic. It might find a home on this 300.

Update time -

The 300 runs on it's own fuel system! My current hurdle is the cooling system.

I'm 99.5% sure the engine/trans needs to come out for core plug replacement. The core pluds in the heads are newer/unpainted so I'm going to assumethis has been a long standing/nagging issue. It's about 55-60 bolts to remove the engine so not a terrible job, just tedious.

My other hurdle is the braking system. The LF caliper is leaking along with the master cylinder. At this point I'm planning in reolacing the MC, both rear wheel cylinders and rebuilding the calipers.

While these items sound laborious in nature the cost will be minmal compared to replacing the convertible top. That's the plan once we repair the hood hinge area and have the windshield/gasket replaced.

Regardless of these obstacles I am sure this car will be awesome once it's back in service.

I added some misery pictures along with an example pic of a block on the stand for reference.

As always any insight is appreciated : D

do u want to sell it?

Lol sometimes! My intent in buying these cars is to save them, get them road worthy and then eventually pass them to someone wanting to take the to the next level. We live on mile long gravel driveway in the woods therefore the cars with nice paint jobs are not practical.

I have a few cars I enjoy racing and having a non-profit no kill car shelter is the only way we can afford racing fuel and trailer tires with everything being so darn costly these days.

GHere are a few shots of my street/strip 383/4-speed 68 GTS . Drag racing is a great way to promote vocational skills to young people/children. Support your local race tracks : D

I grew up just on the other side of the interstate, south of Frichen School at 53rd dr and Hwy20, went to Ives Grove school back in the 60's

I miss being able to bop across the highway and hit the A&W and head to Great Lakes Dragaway with my 440 4-speed '66 Charger. It's still hiding in the garage waiting for me to finish up the roll cage.
