Evening gang. I have had my brake booster rebuilt by Karps in CA. Added a new master. Bench blead it. All new brake hoses. One wheel cylinder. I blead all of the lines out. The brakes only slightly stop the car if I use all of my strength on the pedal to stop it. And that is at like 1 mph. There is only one thing I did not replace. It is the valve that the vacuum line attaches then mounts to the booster. Could that be my problem. I have engine vacuum on that hose but dont know how to test the valve. Should I just replace it? What else is there?

Was the vacuum port not installed on the booster when you sent it to Karps, and did they not send the booster back to you with this port, installed and tested?

Take a drum off and have an assistant VERY SLOWLY press the brake pedal while you watch the brake mechanism. This is with the engine NOT RUNNING. You should see one of the shoes move out. Take the foot off the brake and it should move back - might have to tap the shoe back into place. If you see that on one drum, that's enough to show your system is mostly working. I'd try that on a rear drum.

Thank you MopPar Man. Good idea. I will do that and fill you in on the results. Thanks again.

Have you contacted Karps about this issue and sought their guidance?

Just curious,

Verify MC is for a 4 wheel drum setup. Insure you have the residual valves in the MC. Did you adjust the boosters actuating rod per FSM?

I mention these things as they were some issues I experienced recently.

It sounds as though you are not getting any boost from the booster for whatever reason. If your brake pedal is hard without the engine running, it is normal but should be easy to push when running. I'm not sure of your configuration but if you have a auxiliary vacuum tank like my 60 Dart has you could have the vacuum one way check valve turned around. That would cause your problem. Got any pictures of your set-up?

Actually, I have not. It is a good idea though. I have not been able to get back to the car because I threw my back out.
Thank you very much

Thanks for the update. Sorry about your health issues.

Only thing is that there might be a time limit on how late they will accept warranty claims.
Just some thoughts,
