When I was at the shop today getting the car aligned, the owner and I were under the car looking around and we came across this...(see picture). Is this correct? The shackles look upside down. He said aren't they supposed to be the other way around and I said I'm pretty sure they are of what I remember about all the other Mopars Ive owned. Is this just the way C body's were designed? Kind of through us both for a loop when we saw this. Nothing is hitting or anything, so that's good. Does anyone have a 66 Fury here that they can look under to let me know if this is correct??
Thanks guys...

Crap, if this isn't correct, then I would say the leaf springs are to short then and not the correct springs for the car. Please, if anyone has a picture of the shackle setup for a 66 Fury can you post it. I'm really worried here...:(

I think your springs are correct.
I believe someone did this to lower the car.
This configuration would also limit the travel.

Alan

I think the bracket for the shackle is mounted upside down and then the shackle is also upside down.

Check your FSM, I'll bet it has a picture.

Yes i agree with Alan, the springs will be fine, they just inverted the bracket to lower the car, shouldn't take you more than an hour to correct this, plus you get to check just how good your bushes are. :)

Thanks guys. This is an easy fix then. I'll replace the bushing while I have it apart. Unfortunately I don't have a FSM for my car.

no, no, no...
That is exactly correct for 65 and 66 Fury's. It might be right for all 65 -66 ones. I have a 65 and have had two other 65/66 Fury's and all have had the exact setup shown in your picture.

WAIT....
Never Mind. Everyone is right and I am wrong. I looked at the picture wrong. My Bad. The bracket in the picture above is indeed upside down. Just can't trust my 55 year old brain sometimes.
Sorry guys.

Really!!? No **** they are correct then?

Edit: Crap again, just read you second post. Got excited for about 45 seconds...LMAO..!!

Would you mind taking a picture of yours and posting it here please?

Shackles can get inverted like that if the rear of the spring strikes an object and pushes it upward. It happened to one of my cars once, but it is an easy fix.

OK, my wife thinks I am nuts but here is a picture of my OEM 1965 Sport Fury Convertible rear spring shackle mount. It has only been off the car once, when I added poly bushings. I put it back in exactly as it came off.

Well mine are upside down then. That is a picture of the drivers side,..right? Mine are upside down. PO must of wanted the car lowered. When I flip these right side up,.I should gain a few inches of lift in the rear I would imagine. Cool..!! Thank you for taking the picture for me. Much appreciated.

Thank you all for chiming in with this. You guys are great.

Just as an FYI, the leaf springs on my Fury are Mopar Performance HD replacement springs for 68-70 B body (Road Runner). They have the exact same dimensions as my original factory springs. And, poly spring bushings weren't listed for C bodies but the same ones for the B-body fit like a glove.
