I went to buy a master cylinder from my local O'Reilly Auto Parts, but they no longer stock them, and can't order them. Same with NAPA. (Okay, O'Reilly can send mine off for rebuilding, but I want to swap, not send away to fix.)

I see AAP has remans from Cardone for $45 (including core), Rock Auto has new from Centric for $65, or Raybestos for $75.

It looks like I don't have to exchange the core before getting the reman, but it's not clear. If I have to sent in the core, then it will be a choice between Centric and Raybestos.

What are your opinions?

I have had problems with cardone reman masters. Go to autozone and get the fenco brand. They have it. Just exchange your's for the core. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa.../Master-Cylinder-Brake-System/_/N-iri21Z8kn47
I have been running the fenco master cylinder on my 68 Fury a while. Its a great quality part.

So that's two votes for the AutoZone reman.

It looks like I can order it in the store. I'm hoping it means I can order it, pay the core charge, and then get a core charge refund when I swap it out. If that's the case, I'll do that. If they want me to have the core at the time of purchase, I'll just buy a new one, because core and reman is more expensive than buying a new one.

I had actually decided to buy the Raybestos new MC when I saw this last post. But I think I'll drop by AutoZone on my way home and see what the deal is.

Typically, yes. But O'Reilly's would only send mine in for rebuilding, and another store would only ship to my home, which meant shipping my core made it prohibitive and too much hassle.

So I'm not holding my breath until I know for sure.

And you hit on one of the reasons I was leaning towards buying a new one: I then have my old core for the next time... because you know there will be a next time.

Well if I'm trusting a company to stop my beast and I'm puttting my life on the line, it's going to be with a company that's been manufacturing brake parts for near a hundred years.

It looks like Raybestos will be it. Went to Auto Zone last night, and they have it listed, but none in stock, and no replacement date. That's the same thing that happened at NAPA; O'Reilly's would only send mine off for rebuild.

So on my policy of "don't throw money at this car, but when I do something, try to do it right," I'll be buying a new master cylinder and keeping the old one for my next core need. Hopefully a Raybestos part won't need replacing during the time of my stewardship.

You are making my head spin. It seems the core exchange principals have eluded you thus far.

just buy the offshore built new.olo

Does anybody really believe that the Raybestos of 2014 has any relationship to Raybestos of 1964 except in name only.
Please....

Yeah, well it's a moot point, since I just bought whatever MC was in stock at PST. As long as I was there buying tie rod parts, I bought the master cylinder. I was getting 10% off because of this forum, and free shipping.

Sweet way to support advertisers and get a deal. I did get a rock auto new Raybestos M/C for a 71 Newport, put it on my Challenger to try and reduce some travel out of the pedal (larger bore) it has been working well looks just like a M/C from a 71 Newport works for me.
