Brake drums

ISO front/rear brake drums.....70 Chrysler Newport, suggest any good aftermarket/OEM sources??

Hm. I thought they went to discs by then.

Nope...she's running drums up front. I was surprised myself to see it the first time. I guess the previous owner wasn't in the mood to check off the front disk option. Truth be told I would have never known had I not pulled the rims...

Every now and then the thought of converting to discs up front come to mind......think I saw a project like that in Mopar Muscle magazine..

I keep hearing that the only drum to disc conversion on your cars that is feasible is to find a '73 only setup and from what I read, they are very, very scarce.

Yeah, true. Everyone is out looking for those 73' parts....and not only the Fuselage cars either..slabs looking to convert also trying to score the 73' setup. Guess that's the main deterrent for me.......the car stops good and I'm dead dog lazy.

Have you removed them yet? I found out the drums on my car where in great shape and had them turned.

Let me tell my experience for those that think you HAVE TO have discs.
I had a 66 Fury I that I swapped out the /6 for a 440. The Fury was a real poverty car. I'm talking manual brakes on the real narrow drums. Being piss poor, I went the total 100% rebuild route with everything new right to complete brake lines. Converted to dual M/C while I was at it.
Those brakes would put you through the windshield if you weren't belted in.
Food for thought.

You can do the conversion with your years discs. The conversion is done with the 73's because of parts availability

I've had cars with front discs up until now. Thought it was going to be a big difference in stopping power between discs up front and drums up front AND in the rear.......HONESTLY can't tell the difference....

The real difference is fade from heat buildup from multiple hard stops.
If you're racing, yah. Absolutely necessary.
Driving 3.2 miles down the road to Dairy Queen on Saturday night? Pffffftttttttt...

well, conventional wisdom would say yea..but I really have not been able to tell the difference.
