Running and driving!

Justin, I think it looks great and you deserve to feel good about all you have been able to do. I, too, would want to have it painted, but you can do that anytime. We all understand what it is like to play with cars and try to live within a budget at the same time. By the way, I lived in Winston-Salem from 1993 to 2001 so I know a little bit about Raleigh-Durham. It is one of the areas I would consider retiring to when the time comes. I loved living in W-S.

Looks from the manifolds like it is an actual L code car which evidently is why it has the 26" radiator with no AC.

Also looks like it may have started life as a white car.

Nice solid straight car. In time you may find yourself putting some paint on it. I actually don't mind the the patina thing, but the oversize diameter wheels are out of my taste range. I do like the torque thrust style though.

Here's a couple of mine; The red one I have had since I was 13 and the pale yellow/ivory one Stan posted here and it found it's way to my yard

MoparJim, Yeah I figured I can paint it anytime I get tired of patina and part of the reason I clear coated it was cause it saved me a couple grand. Its funny you mention the paint, because I just posted commented on how awesome your car is. I love that black on your car. If I paint it, it'll be black like yours. Raleigh is a nice area. If you ever find yourself out this way, let me know.

has2bemopar, What does the L code mean? There's a mopar genius here in Raleigh and he thought it was very odd that my car was not an AC car, but was a TNT model. He told me my dual snorkel air cleaner is gold.....
Wow, you have all kinds of cool toys. I like the hotrod stance of your 300s

C - Chrysler
M - 300
23 - 2drht
L - 375hp 440 vs K- 350hp

Here's a couple more I no longer own, but the '67 NY I sold to my cousin so I still get to work on it. Hopefully this year he will have enough money saved up so I can put together a 700+ hp Indy 493 for it.

does the one you had since your were 13 still run?

Yes, I started it a couple years ago and it ran really nice yet. When I put a running car to rest I have it running and fully warmed up and slowly start putting some trans fluid down the carb till it starts smoking heavy then I douse it and let off the throttle to kill it. I stopped driving it when the brake booster went bad and I had 2 other Road Runners to drive. The yellow 300 has a seized engine from sitting too long without running.

Also, if you haven't since you took the pictures, get the throttle adapter for your carb and get the kickdown linkage working properly or you will do in the transmission in a short time.

So I have the throttle adapter, but I don't know if the kickdown linkage is working properly. When I put it in drive or reverse from park or neutral it is a pretty hard shift

Way to be you! You have done a good job so far on the 300. First you saved it from the crusher & then you set about getting it running & driving without much experience doing such a job. Best of luck the rest of the way. Keep us posted

Justin, you remind me of me, I'm only 30 with novice mechanical experience but I've learned so much about these cars from researching the web and mostly from this forum. Like you, I did all the work myself getting my car running good. Never in a million years would I have thought I'd do a cars interior but I'm right in the middle of it. Doing it all myself. Keep up the work and don't think you can't do something. Patience and lots of questions will get you where you want to be. Nice car btw.

Thank you MrFury and Latpeahy. This forum has helped me so much. Post some pics of your car Latpeahy, Id like to see it

Measure the length of throw of your kickdown lever on the transmission and try to find a point on your throttle lever that has the same travel from closed to wide open throttle. I have actually drilled a hole at the correct point for your main pin so the travel distance matched. There are also different length levers for the transmission also. There should be a light spring from the back of the slotted adjustable rod to your main pin on your throttle arm. When your throttle is wide open your kickdown lever on the transmission should be all the way back. The closed throttle point is not as crucial, but it would be best if it also matches with the kickdown lever being fully forward.

If your shift is hitting hard from neutral to reverse or drive it could be what I noticed in the pictures, which is that your kickdown linkage is shoved back when your throttle is closed... Assuming it is complete and hooked up. Also your idle could be set too high, or possibly you could have some universal joints getting loose. A trans filter and gasket would also be a good idea so you can adjust the internal band adjustment along with the one above the shift tower. A red bottle of Lube Guard would also be a good thing to put in with your fresh fluid.

Good luck, hope you stick around, keep your 300 and share your progress. It will be good inspiration for me to do something with my 300 that my friends named "Big Red."

has2bmopar, Thank you sir for the advice! I'm going to check that out. I think the idle was too high as well. There's an art to setting he idle right. I just had a buddy set it up right for me. I changed the tranny fluid and filter already. That was one of the first things I did, but I had no idea about the internal band adjustment. Wow, I got a lot to learn. Thank you again for the advice

Latpeahy, Cool car man! I'm jealous you have an AC car. Mine is brutal hot with the humidity here in NC. Thanks for uploading the pics. We are going to get these beasts right.

Ac is a ways down the road. I hardly even use it in my truck in the summer. Just like the windows down
