The People Have Spoken...

Re the general welfare clause....
It states the function of fedgov is to PROMOTE not PROVIDE the general welfare.
If providing health insurance (not health care) is a function of government then why doesn't it provide us with everything? Housing, food, clothing, everything.
And under bumcare fedgov can and will say we arent paying for that you will die. Try taking them to court.
What fedgov can give they can also take away.
Your opinion of the general welfare clause reflects the original narrow interpretation promoted by James Madison. A more expansive interpretation was confirmed during the depression by the Supreme Court which conveyed on Congress plenary power to tax and spend at their discretion for the general welfare. I'm unaware of any specific prohibition against the provision of services. Of course with forthcoming Trump appointments to the Supreme Court all that could change.

The CotUS specifies the functions of fedgov. Health insurance, etc isnt there.
And as I said before fedgov is to PROMOTE not provide the general welfare. I dont care what SCotUS said that was an unconstitutional ruling because its not in CotUS.
Yes, it says Congress can tax us but it doesnt say the money can be used for things not laid out as a function of fedgov.

Just when I was beginning to believe there must be more lead in the drinking water of a lot more communities than just Flint, Michigan (and I am still not sure there isn't given some of the posts in this thread), along comes this post from MYSINBIN. I believe it is the most informative/insightful article I have read in the last 12 months. It is an amazing insight from some time ago. Very interesting.

So you defer to the unconstitutional political agenda of SC justices?
You do realize only Congress can enact laws?
Yes I do aconowledge an illegal ruling by a judge. Just because a judge said it doesnt make it correct.
If these judges want to change CotUS they should go through the amendment process as the Founders established. They devised the amendment process because judges cannot legislate from the bench.

You should hit "reply" when responding to a post, so others easily know which one you are referring to, even if that suggestion isn't in the CotUS.

So what you are saying is if its not in CotUS its okay to do?
CotUS is not for telling fedgov what they can do. It is for saying what it cannot do.
It places limits on what fedgov can do. And anything not expressly allowed is delegated to the states under the 10th.
Fedgov powers are extremely limited. The founders envisioned a small limited central govt with strong state governments, the people have the power.
Seems around 1865 that all changed.

Well we're 8 months in and I'm a chronically curious person.

How's everybody feeling about Potus?

OK, I will be the first to bite the apple, (even though my *** still hurts from the reaming I got from everyone when he was elected),
I AM SO VERY GLAD I DID NOT VOTE FOR HIM.

my thoughts summed up succinctly.

I can't believe how hard the snowflakes are working AGAINST the POTUS!!!!!!!

Just plain shameful!!!!!!!!

Far better than the past bunch of blowhards especially with all of the SNOWFLAKE CRYBABY BULLSHIT that he has been dealing with. Finally we have a President who really cares for America and it's people and not just his own pockets. And someone with an actual business background and not a freaking lawyer or lifelong politician.

The snowflakes are the direct result of growing up with "Participation Trophy" expectations. Coddled as kids, passed through the education system where nobody fails, then "safe places" in college and back to mom an dad's house after graduation. Their first dose of reality doesn't hit them 'till they're 30 yrs old.

Let me ask this question... Had America elected Ralph Nader, or to keep it relevant; Bernie Sanders to the job, what would be different right now?

Sure a few things would be different, but guess what? The same "establishment deep state" who made sure Bernie couldn't win would be cooking up ways to truncate his effectiveness.

Anti-Trumpers (still) fixate on the man himself and fail to realize he's merely the available crowbar thrown into a stupid, corrupt machine that is eating America.

And BTW, that isn't to say that I don't back the man himself or his policy. "Climate Change" is the 1%'s latest wealth-transfer scam. No-skill, legal and illegal immigration is nothing but a dependent voter base that hurts America's existing poor. The Military exists to kill people and break things, not as a social experiment. Am I missing anything?

Let's put it this way, this photo damn sure wasn't taken in November... More like 5 mins ago.

Yeah, kind of like Jared and Ivanka Kushner. Entitled, think they know everthing, no experience yet given top jobs by their "daddy" just cause they are related, pampered beyond belief with gold spoons in their mouths, and they are his top advisers no less! Great examples for the rest of the moms and dads out there that want to give their kids everything until they couldn't do a real hard day's work if you paid them! And look at Donald Jr. Huge ego like his dad. Talks tough, but every time he opens his big mouth, he needs a bunch of daddy's lawyers to bail his dumb *** out.

Oh God, I can't want for this dumbass to either walk away from his job or even worse just wait another 3 1/2 years until he has done nothing still, when no one will vote for him the next time around except some on this site.
Yeah, Donald is so smart that even with his party in control of Congress, he still can't get rid of Obamacare, "that will be repealed on day one!" Hell, he doesn't even know what is in the health care bills that are "so great". And then he tried to use a heavy hand to make his minions in his party vote for it even if it destroys a lot of lives. He talks about the "art of the deal" but how do you deal well if you don't even know what is in the deal?

His only usefulness is that he can talk tough to a guy just like him in North Korea, who Donald must be insanely jealous of - he has everyone marching in lock step to his decisions, is just a despot with no one to apparently stop his madness, and he has the forced adoration of the masses of people there. That to Donald must be heaven.

Trump may just be the right man for the times. Look at the options we had last year.
Much like Reagan was the right man for the time. Didn't have much of an option back then either. Consider the consequences had Carter won a second term or if Clinton was allowed to continue basically as Obama's third term.
I still can't believe Michigan went to Trump last year!

Oh brother!

Oh brother!

Let me say this though, Trump is still better than Hillary, so it is hard to criticize anyone that voted for Trump. And like Carmine in one respect at least, I say that because I agree that Trump is the right guy to throw a crowbar into the machinery of our corrupt two party political system of bought and paid for politicians that serve their doners, not us.

Deny climate change all you want, but even if you don't agree, it is still a great job creator for our country if we stay ahead of the technology development with guys like Elon Musk who force technology such that new jobs are created in expanding fields - electric vehicles, solar technology, battery technology, advanced electronics, swift ground travel technologies, and exploring the frontiers of space. Far better approach to creating jobs the trying to resucsitate dying and dead coal mining jobs that Trump touts (and I wouldn't mind if the middle east countries that live off of oil to fund all their insanity, had a little less of a market to sell to if all our cars aren't running on fossil fuels. Let them die off with no money to support them anymore and then they can enjoy their religions that breed endless wars and infighting). But to stay ahead of this curve, we need better schools that everyone that wants to and is capable can attend without crippling them for life, like in many countries in Europe. It takes smart investment to keep a nation thriving......................and a strong middle class. Not just a strong rich class. And the middle class ain't gonna get any better until the rich like Trump and all our current politicians pay more taxes like they used to when "America was Great". And I can guarantee you it won't happen with our current government staffed from the swamp more than ever thanks to lying Donald.

Thanks primarily to Reagan, who dropped the tax rates on the rich from 70% down to 28% with his bull "trickle down" economy and "ever get a job from a poor man?" crap that we have still never recovered from with his epic disaster of a Presidency due to that one major screwup. Yes, he was at least principled, but it only worked for guys like him, unfortunately.

Trying to understand snowflakes and having a tough time trying to understand their point of view and beliefs......
