I checked with my local Advance Auto Parts store and they said "no-can-do" on ordering an idler arm for my 72 Imperial.

Can anyone here advise me of where I might start looking?

Thanks,
Ron

First place I would check is Murray Park. www.cbodies.com

Give him a couple days to reply though, as he's probably JUST getting back from Carlisle, if he isn't going straight to another show that is.........

You could also try rareparts.com, but from what I can tell, there are no bargains on that site.........

Good luck with it!

Are you looking for the whole arm or just the bushing? I found the bushing on rock auto

Rare Parts is pretty much your only option anymore if you need the whole arm or yours rebuilt. You can actually order them through Autozone or NAPA as well, but they are sourced from Rare Parts.

Be glad you're not getting one for a '67-'68 Imperial, fits those two years only, Imperial only. I paid about that much 9 years ago at Carlisle.........

Just purchased moog k7014 idler arm for my '71 Fury, cost me $34.79 from rockauto. Wouldn't it be the same as a '72 Imperial?

Were you happy with your Idler Arm...I'm in the market...did you get the last one?

I've been looking for a while as well. It seems that having it rebuilt by Rare Parts is the only way to go. I'm not sure if they deal directly with the public. There are places that will send it in for you and mark it way up. I found this place that is apparently right near Rare Parts. They will take it over there personally. The mark up isn't too crazy either.

I was hoping to get one without removing my present one first...it's completely drivable and asymptomatic...just recommended by mechanic for any long road trips which I rarely do if ever...I don't want to cripple my car in the shop...did that with my brake booster for 5 weeks...if I can locate one in a junkyard and then have it rebuilt would probably be the ticket if no one has one on shelf somewhere.

I believe Rare Parts has some on the shelf that you can buy and send yours back as a core. Of course, they would charge a core charge.
I deal with Rare Parts directly. No problem, and always helpful. Yes, they are pricey, but there are no other good options that I would trust or that are not basically supplied by them anyway.

It's not very high on my list either. Sounds like a good winter project.

Thank you...good to hear that...I'll see what they say next week with my email out to them...I prefer to not cripple the car in the shop so the core swap deal works for me if they have one on shelf.

Rare Parts does NOT have one on the shelf.
I too did not want to cripple my car. I called Murray Parks and bought a used bad one for $125. I sent that one to Rare Parts and for $292.50 + shipping I received back a new rebuilt idler arm; so all said and done I'm in it just under $450. Its what you do when you love your Imperial.
I haven't swapped it out yet as I'm on a job in Massachusetts but when I get home, it'll be the first thing on my list; which is at the bottom my wife's list...
