So I went to put my car in gear and the buttons are making a hissing sound. All gears except neutral. Car drives and shifts ok. No issues. So I looked it up in chapter 21 of the shop manual and I don't see any vacuum lines. I also tried to replace the dash lightbulb. Got its out but could not get the leverage to put it back in. Any suggestions? Did I knock off a vacuum line?

Are you a member of the Online Imperial Club?, wealth of knowledge among those folks.

Your transmission has cable operated push buttons, there usually is no vacuum connection to them. Does your car by chance have an auto release for the park brake? If so, that probably is what is leaking. Can't remember if the auto release was an option in '64. I think it was on some of the later ones. If you have this option, the is a small vacuum switch attached to the push button assembly that operates a small vacuum motor on the park brake release. Check for a loose hose, leaking switch or leaking vacuum motor. If it was not leaking before changing the bulb, odds are you knocked something loose or broke something.

The cluster lamps are a pain to get back in. If you have a needle nose pliers with the snout bent at a 90 degree angle, that works about as good as anything. Most auto parts should have one.

I think you may be right. Is the Park Brake have a vacuum hose connected to the push buttons?

I have been looking and some of their repair write-ups.
There's the option to join the group, not a forum like this one though, all communication is done via email and all messages are sent to all members' email address. That can be good but also fills your inbox with emails very quickly, however; what some of those Imperial owners don't know is not worth knowing, if you get my drift.

Found it! There are two hoses. I knocked one off. Now getting the light bulb in is going to require my 12 year old daughter to get under the dash.

Kids with little hands are always good to have for under dash work.
