Don't laugh. All of us used to actually wear these in my neighborhood. Made them out of our father's old hats.
ya probably had to have lived in or been around a major US urban area, and at least 55 yrs old now, to know this guy, the movie, and the fashion (and vehicle) fad it spawned.
we're in TV land now ..its cool. lotsa Old Men with Hats there.

I actually had one of those made with a beaver pelt. It was the hottest damned hat I've ever worn. I asked the guy I got it from if I could return it, as I'd never be in that cold an environment! He was cool and took it back.
