I am going to pull the steering wheel off my 78 New Yorker and send it off to be repaired. Gonna take 10 weeks to get it repaired. I need a substitute wheel to move the car around while I have it painted. Any thoughts on where I can get one? I probably could pull the wheel off my 74, but then it is stuck in storage and I cannot work on it while the 78 is being painted?

Sounds like your going all out... I have a couple core steering wheels too. Would like to try recasting one day, I'm way too cheap to pay for the work.

Doesn't Stan have an NOS one in stock?

Kevin
I tried Murray Park, he has some, but not in good shape. Lynn in Aztec has a wheel he has on take out steering column. We will pull it later this week. He is a good guy.

FYI, most Mopar steering wheels will work on your 78 NY'er. The steering shaft and spines are the same. The difference is the slot for the T&T lever lock. But don't need that to be able to move the car around...just won't have the T&T function.

Just a reminder....I lucked out and bought a blue leather wrapped steering wheel from a 1977 Daytona Charger for $50. Mounted it on a machine lathe and cut a 1/2" of the acrylic hub off the rear and it bolted right up to my 1978 NYB T&T steering column. Best $50 I ever spent on the NYB.

So aside from the fact that the T&T option won't work, any wheel from say 1970-1978 will work on any other New Yorker, Imperial or Newport? This is news to me.

In that the splines will match... not that they will sit right and look right...

Sorry fella's. I didn't know the steering wheel was gone.

Splines and shaft diameter are all the same. The acrylic hub on the back side of a T&T steering wheel is shorter. I took a steering wheel off a 1977 Daytona Charger and put it on a machine lathe and cut just a little more than 1/2" off the rear hub and it bolted right up on 1978 NYB with T&T. And if it has the oval slot for the T&T lock lever.....the T&T function will work too. I'm pretty sure most steering wheels has the oval slot for the T&T lock lever.
