Fluid Technician with a hat
Got back yesterday evening with a '68 Monaco 500 I picked up from @Sam392 in Indianapolis. Got two hours of sleep and went and grabbed a Uhaul pickup and auto transport and hit the road. The weather was pretty good going down, and I was moving like the wind. Got to Steve's house and loaded up the car after a little BS'ing and checking out his '68 300. That's a sweet car! I love the rims he put on, as I said, a bankers car with attitude. It was very refreshing to be able to DRIVE!!! the car onto the trailer.
Look at all that room left over!
I was back on the road after an hour, and heading to The Playground, aka Wyatt's shop in Rockford, to show off the newest member of the fleet.
Still clean, but not for long.
They sure love their salt in Illinois, on the way down I thought I was driving over gravel for a while, until I passed the salt truck, they really put a lot on the road. But it didn't matter, I hit a stretch that held me to 55-60 tops, didn't need to hurry so I suffered through. Got to Rockford and checked out the progress on Wildcat, stretched my legs a little and back on the road.
The car got splattered with that awful salt wash from traffic, I hate that happening, but I don't have an enclosed trailer, and probably never will.
Looks better in the picture than it was, so I stopped at a truck stop and had them blast the salt off the car, top and bottom, worth the twenty bucks, as I had clean roads and under fifty miles to go.
Got it to my storage unit, and it didn't like the cold! Had the son in law help me with some gas and a wrench, had to swap the battery out to get it off the trailer. The carb definitely needs a going over, but Steve had told me that so I was aware already. Got my '66's parked nice and tight and had plenty of room for the Monaco.
For now my plans are to tune it up and drive it, I have two cars and a truck ahead of it in queue, but I'm sure I'll tinker with it before long.
Thirty-six hours is all it took. I did stop for an hour nap after I stopped in Rockford, surprised the truck was that roomy. Got home and jumped back into the real world, washed the stinky dog right away! So I've got another one to play with. I could drive a different vehicle every day of the week if I get them all running! Let's see how many I can get on the road next year, I'm hoping for at least two.
