O gauge Trains

I have my Dad's prewar trains. A 1917 #156, it's rare as it's a 4-4-4 and not the 0-4-0. And I also have his #256 Loco and I believe that's a 1926 vintage. Both them suckers just haul ***, to bad there so top heavy as they can't take a turn at a crawl without tipping.

I got mine off E-bay as well. Yeah, these are a real cherry set, so nice I really don't and haven't run them. I have a pair of Williams to take their place and want to download some of my stuff.
Cool to have a 156 and be a family heirloom. The 156 is on my search list for the big TCA show in York this April. Fortunately there are only a few WWI era “0” pieces, but they are pricey.

Here is one of my favorite sets, but it is a reproduction:

That screw on the bottom of the horn adjusts the pitch.

If only I could get it working to adjust it! I did see some new horns offered through Legacy station in Atlanta. May pick one up.

I’d be a little afraid to run em too! They are gorgeous.

I’d like to do the york show sometime. Don’t see it happening this year, but hopefully next year!

I’d also love to have the Mack daddy 700E. Lionel did a great rendition of it in the Modern Vision line. Probably cheaper to buy the Vision line one! lol

Got her back together, and let her run free for an hour or so. Cool seeing the 70 year old engine running with 2018 stuff, and in between!

The little lionel transformer still won’t power her, so she’s stuck on the top loop. Too afraid of it getting stuck in the back by the bridge on the main loop! It’s fun getting back there....

What Transformer you runnin?

This dinky little ‘90s starter set transformer. (Came with my first starter set). 40 watts max I believe. It won’t power my big MTH engines either. It will give just enough power to start to creep. Any more power it goes into protection mode.

Lots of different sounds going on at once! The F units look good, even if it's stuck on the small loop.

OMG! I surprised that can even light a light bulb, let alone run a train. Somewhere buried in my life I have a ZW I want to download.

LOL, yea it’s pretty weak for sure! I have another one under the table, with a MTH distribution block for some of the accessories. I believe that’s where this one will also end up for the other table.

A ZW too ehh?? Hmm.... once I get the trains back, may have to get up with you!

I’ve always wanted one, but thought them a bit impractical with my modern stuff, with all the bells and whistles.

You guys got me looking. Lionel did offer “sound activation buttons” to hook up to transformers without sound buttons. Found a couple of em online. Just hook em up between the transformer, and track.

In theory this should work perfect! The MTH ProtoSound stuff is activated through different sound button sequences (in conventional mode) On top of being able to sound the bell.

Well the wait was worth it! The Boss of the layout is back. I’m absolutely tickled with it. The videos gives it no justice. Thing gives you goosebumps! Sounds just like the real thing running around the room lol. She is a monster!

The postwar bug is biting lol. Another addition showed up today. Saw this car on eBay, and was surprised I won it with the cheaper bid I put in. It’s in fairly decent shape. A couple paint chips, and seems to be missing one of the thumb knobs on one of the trucks.

Also threw a bid in on a ‘50 and ‘51 catalog, to go with the 2343. The ‘50 hasnt showed up yet. Thinking of framing one of these to hang on the wall.

I’m really loving these F3’s. I know I bought em more for a shelf/display piece, but I keep finding myself favoring these on the track over some of the other engines lol.

Thinking of adding a second level to the layout with a couple loops going around the legs of the tables. This would be the postwar level. Like to get a Texas special to go with the Santa Fe running around, with a couple period correct accessories.

The U.P. Alco finally came home today. Nice to see her working again! Had to wait forever on MTH as the motors for this one were not available anymore. Took them a while to find one that would work.

While at the shop picked up a couple other goodies. The wiring needs cleaning up and finalizing, but have some sidings now for a couple other engines. Installed some switches, and isolated the track so these can sit off while other trains run the layout.

Excuse Steve in the background. Seems he wanted to be on video today lol.

A little more playing around with the GoPro the other day..

I came across a local ad today on facebook for a bin of old postwar Lionel. Had to jump on it. I spied the top of a ZW transformer in the pics buried in the bin. Also spotted this one year only Wabash 2367 F3.

Needless to say the bin came home. Some of the stuff is beyond saving. But cleaned up the salvageable cars, and lubed em up. The ZW actually powers up. I havn’t hooked it up to anything yet. The Wabash E unit is cycling, but no movement. Everything under the shell is pretty deteriorated.

This one may go out for a restoration. Even though she is kind of an ugly duckling, she is a one year only item. Seems a little rarer.

They always seem to get me when they include the box... :realcrazy::lol:

I’m experimenting with the vinegar rust removal on the rusty old track. Only been a few hours soak so far. Started a little after 7pm. Do notice the ties are already cleaning up quite a bit. Don’t notice much on the actual track yet. Will see how it looks tomorrow.
