Oh wise and noble C Body dudes.....
I have the interior wheel well covers removed from the Coronet wagon and want to paint them the stock color. I have the primer and color in spray cans but am wondering the groups thought are on prepping the plastic before painting. I've cleaned it with soap and water and removed some minor loose material. Is that sufficient before painting? Thanks in advance for the wisedom!

The main thing is to be sure you have it really clean. Plastic does not absorb paint, just like metal, so do the pre-cleaning carefully so you get a good bond. Be sure the product you bought is compatible with what you are going to spray it on. Try a small, out of sight area first, if the paint runs off or starts to react with the plastic, stop! Some plastics work well with a pre-cleaning with lacquer thinner, some do not.

Use an adhesion promoter like this.

You must also clean it whit silicone remover, some dirt removes whit soap and water and some only whit silicone remover (be carefully whit paint thinner, it could be too "aggressive " and silicone remover is much milder). After cleaning sanď lightly whit gray 3M sandinpad and yes, try first on back side....good luck!

Use a vinyl prep! I painted my convertible boot and it turned out great but used the prep first! It cleans and prepares the vinyl and I wouldn't even consider not prepping it.

Chris, got any left over, that's some expensive stuff!

Is the Rustoleum version acceptable? I only need to spray a seat side cover, and I'd hate to spend the money, and not use most of it. If it's the bomb, and I'll have no worries, then so be it, but if I can save some precious pennies, I'd like to.
