Working on a 70 383 to 496 stroker. I've seen a ton of info in threads, always appreciate input. Using 440 Source for the kit and other parts. Aluminum heads ,525 lift cam, Edelbrock RPM Performer, DUI igntion, 850 cfm vac sec carb. HP manifolds. 727 -shift kit , 2500 stall, 3.55 sure grip. 8 3/4 rear end. 26" radiator- new enhanced core
I'm sure I missed a few details, but I have a few questions for you guys who have been there done that. This is a street cruiser with air conditioning.
Do you run 2.5" or 3" dual exhaust? Does anyone have a best electric exhaust cut out, Hooker ,etc. Is a 3/8" fuel line from the stock fuel pump to the carb good enough?
What are the largest size 15" radials I can put in the rear ? I assume 235/70R/15 in front.
Can't wait to get it back from the machine shop.

Have 2.5 inch all the way back on all the cars. In my opinion, the TTI exhaust kit is the way to go. It's your car your opinion etc, but I would not suggest cut outs as they sound like crap in my opinion

3" tail pipes are really hard to fit, to do it again I might do 2.5 after the mufflers.
275/60's on a 4" backspace rim. I'm not sure if you could fit a 295 if you trimmed the wheel lip and ordered custom backspace rims

You can get away with 3" to the mufflers and 2.5" after unless you plan to dump the pipes out under the rockers (not recommended).

275/60/15 on my 69 Fury III 4 1/2 inch back spacing. 8 inch rim.

Thanks for the replies. How wide of a tire can I go with the stock road wheel ?
Should I be upgrading the alternator during the rebuild. Charged fine before.
Very nice to have the forum, makes the project easier. Thanks again.

I put a 275/60 on a 7" rim but it wore out the center on the tire early. 8" it's much better

That all depends on how wide they are now. I have 235's on 4.5", I was told I should go wider as this stress's the sidewall. I don't have a problem.

Are you installing high amp electronics, stereo, etc.? If it ain't broke, why fix it? Good Luck
